Jim Mac was famous as a celebrity father. He was the father of a successful musician and composer, Paul McCartney, who is recognized worldwide as The Beatles’s co-lead vocalist and bassist.
Influence on his son Paul
Paul credits his father having a significant influence in his life. Jim, who was himself musically-talented used to lead a band named Mac’s Jazz Band in the 1920s as a trumpet player and Pianist.
He inspired his son towards his musical career and encouraged him to take a music class.
Marriage
Jim was married to his wife Mary Mohin, a nursing sister at Walton Hospital. He first met her in June 1940 at his sister Jin’s house. They fell in love and took a vow on 15th April 1941.
At the time of marriage, Jim was 38 while Mary was 31. At 28, he was promoted to a cotton salesman from a Cotton Exchange sample boy.
He formed his band towards the end of the first World War, which came to an end in World War II.
He worked as a lathe operator at Napier’s munitions factory, which was specialized in building Sabre aircraft engines after the Cotton Exchange came to a halt during the Second World War.
Jim was a former protestant who had turned agnostic, but his wife Mary had the Catholic faith. Therefore they wed in a religious ceremony at St. Swithin’s Roman Catholic Chapel, Gill Moss, in front of close friends and family.
Completely traumatized after the death of his wife
Jim was utterly traumatized after the death of his wife. A supportive wife and a doting mother passed away on 31st October 1956 from an embolism as a complication of breast cancer surgery.
She was a primary wage earner in the family after Jim’s job at Napier came to an end. Though Jim was working at the Liverpool Corporation cleansing department, his pay was low.
Even after a cancer diagnosis, she was still working hard, which often led to her trouble breathing; at that time, Paul was only 14. Jim played the role of father and mother to his sons after the death of his beloved wife.
Remarried his second wife
Jim remarried at the age of 61 to his second wife, Angela Lucia Williams. She was a widow and was 28 years younger than him.
She was a mother to her five-year-old daughter Ruth McCartney to whom Jim adopted. They married on 24th November 1964 at St. Bridget’s Church in Carrog, North Wales.
His wife Angela, who goes by Angie, is the owner and founder of McCartney Multimedia. They were inseparable until his death.

Jim was a father to his three children: Paul and Mike McCarthy and an adopted daughter Ruth. Both of his sons were born in Walton Hospital in the year 1942 and 1944, respectively.
His final words on his deathbed
Jim had arthritis which later became severe. He died on 13th March 1976 at his home in Heswall from bronchial pneumonia.
At his deathbed, his final words were he would be with his wife Mary soon. He was cremated at Landican Cemetery on 22nd March. Paul could not attend the funeral.
