She was just 18 when she married Arkin

Yaffe was a music and dance student at Bennington when she met Arkin. She was just 18 when she married, then 21 years old in December 1955. 

In his 2011 Memoir "An Improvised Life," Arkin detailed how marrying on the spur of the moment made things worse. 

In his book, he wrote that the school was not happy with them getting married young, so they left the college and headed to New York City without any plans. 

Within a few weeks, they discovered that Yaffe was pregnant with their first child. Arkin was desperate to find a job. He wanted to be a responsible husband. 

Since he couldn't find any acting jobs, he ended up joining the folk band "The Terrace." 

He was making money, and their financial situation was getting better, but he eventually started missing acting. 

Acting was something he wanted to do from the beginning, so he ended up leaving the group. 

Arkin did off-Broadway plays for more than a year. The family of three moved to St., Missouri, after Arkin landed a summer job there at Crystal Place. 

During that time, Yaffe got pregnant with their second child, and the family moved back to New York.

Insecurity was the reason behind their split

After they moved back to New York, things started getting worse as he was not earning much money. 

Insecurity started taking a toll on Yaffe as he wrote in his book that worries about money became too much for Yaffe that within months of the birth of their second child, son Matthew, she took the children and left. 

Matthew was just three months old when they got separated. Following their divorce, Yaffe went on to study nurse.

She was in the musical group The Baby Sitters

Yaffe was in the musical group alongside her then-husband Alan Arkin, Lee Hays, and Doris Kaplan. 

The Baby-Sitters recorded four folk albums for children. Yaffe was later replaced by Barbara Dana.

Her sons followed their father's footsteps

Both of her sons, Adam and Matthew, followed in their father's footsteps. Her eldest born, Adam, got exposure to the entertainment world at an early age.

He appeared alongside his parents in The Baby Sitters. He has appeared in a number of shows and movies. 

He has also started as a director working on famous shows such as The Americans, Masters of Sex, and Fargo, as per People.

Besides that, her other son, Matthew, attended Fordham University of Law and practiced law at several firms after receiving a JD degree. 

However, he later quit to pursue his career in acting. Matthew has acted both on Broadway and on screen.

Yaffe is also a grandmother to her four grandchildren. 

Her son Adam shares two kids, a daughter Molly Arkin and a son Emmet Arkin from his previous marriages to Linda Arkin and Phyllis Anne Lyons, respectively. 

He is currently married to his third wife, Michelle Dunker, whom he married in 2017.

While her other son, Matthew, shares two kids with his ex-wife, Pamela Newkirk.

Did she remarry since the divorce?

There is not much information about her, but as per the sources, she married for the second time following her divorce from Arkin. 

Similarly, Arkin went on to get married twice. He married for the second time in 1964 to actress-screenwriter Barbara Dana but divorced in 1994. 

He then married a psychotherapist, Suzanne Newlander, in 1996. They were together until his death in June 2023. 

Arkin, in an interview with Esquire, said that he learned from his third wife that marriage requires searching for honesty at all costs.
