His mother helped his father recover from the darkest phase of his life
His father, Donny, was 16 while his mother, Debbie, was 15, a cheerleader when they first met in 1970.
He was a teen superstar, and she was a cheerleader. It was Debbie's simplicity that made him fall for her.
However, they managed to keep their relationship secret for several years before they announced their engagement in 1978 which surprised Donny's fans.
They got married on the 8th of May, 1978.
While appearing on the Drew Barrymore Show, Donny reflected on the dark years in his life and how his wife helped him recover from the darkest phase of his career.
According to him, 79 to 89 were his dark years because he had lost his career.
It was from his professional point of view but from a personal point of view, he couldn't have been happier because he married the love of his life, Debbie.
He revealed that he had dated her for three and a half years, and once the news of their marriage got out, fans had his record-burning parties and sent the most scathing letters to Debbie.
It took Donny almost a decade to get back on the track.
He had tried Broad Way in a show called Little Johnny Jones, but that didn't work, and also, he was not getting a record deal.

They gave their sons a credit card when they were 14, and it was the first bill that taught them how to respect money.
The reason behind providing them with the credit card was to teach them early how to treat money. He also said that there is an open-door policy.
He will always receive his son's calls no matter what he is doing unless he is on stage. He is always available to them.
