His parents, Daddy Yankee, and Mireddys Gonzalez, are high school sweethearts.

His father, "King of Reggaeton," announced his retirement back in March 2022 via his Instagram. 

After more than three decades of a successful career in the music industry, he decided to retire from his career by posting a video where he said he would bid goodbye celebrating 32 years of experience with a new collector's item, the album Legendaddy, the album in which he is going to give all the styles that have defined him.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, he stated that the pandemic was like something forcing the brakes on the world, and although he had always spent much of his time in Puerto Rico, he wanted to have even more quality time with his family. 

According to him, he felt like it was his turn to live instead of working, working, and working, and when he got into that reflective state, he said he needed to live, too and needed an opportunity to enjoy everything he had achieved. 

His father initially aspired to become a baseball player.

His father grew up aspiring to become a baseball player. He played third base and was close to signing with the Seattle Mariners before a tragedy took a toll on him. 

At the age of 16, while he was recording with DJ Playero in Villa Kennedy, he was out for a short break when an immediate gunfight broke out. 

During the gunfight, he was shot in the leg, which eventually abrupted his baseball career.

According to Yankee, when he was in the hospital after getting shot, he was frustrated because he knew it was the end of his baseball career. 

Lying in bed, a lot of questions flooded his mind thinking about what he was going to do next. 

During that phase, he started getting hope once again through music and thought he had that option too. 

He was playing baseball at the same time he had a lot of songs from the streets that people were feeling it. 

From that onwards, he started taking music more seriously, and although sports was everything to him, he had no other options.
