Jennifer Newhart is the daughter of late Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning American actor and comedian, Bob Newhart. 

Her mother Ginnie Newhart is a TV writer and the daughter of the late character actor Bill Quinn.

Married life and kids 

Jennifer was married to her first husband Joseph Bongiovi. They married in 1994. 

Together, they welcomed four kids, Bellamia, Jojo, Moe, and Taylor Joy Bongiovi. However, their marriage did not last long.

Following their divorce, Jennifer moved on with her life. She has been happily married to Lance Toro since 2019. 

He is not only her life partner but also her business partner. They own a bakery “Wantz and Kneads”.

Her parents were together until death set them apart

Her parents, Bob and Ginnie were first introduced to each other in the 1960s by American comedian and comic actor, Buddy Hackett. 

In an interview with PBS, Ginnie said she used to babysit Hackett’s children. 

According to her, Hackett one day told her that he had met a guy named Bob, with whom he played golf, and that she should marry him.

Hackett then set up a blind date at his house. Bob at the time was in his early 30s while Ginnie was in her early 20s. 

They married on the 12th of January, 1963. They were together for over six decades until Ginnie passed in April 2023. 

A year later, on the 18th of July, 2024, Bob passed away following complications of several short illnesses at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 94.

She has three siblings

Jennifer has three siblings, elder brothers, Robert and Timothy born in 1963 and 1967 respectively, and a younger sister Courtney born in 1977. 

All the siblings grew up watching their father. They would visit their father on set.

Among her three siblings, Robert and Courtney briefly followed their father’s footsteps while her other brother Timothy worked as a production assistant.

Bob started as a stand-up comedian. Initially, he was not thinking of stand-up or anything. 

He was working as an accountant in Chicago but was bored with it. In an interview, he said he gave up accounting and went in for about six months writing ad copy. 

He and his friend Ed Gallagher from a suburban Chicago Stock Company would improvise comedy routines and even recorded and syndicated them but were unsuccessful. 

Later, Ed landed a job in New York and Bob was alone on the journey. 

He decided to stick with it and gave a year which eventually became more and more years and then came the record album.

He was introduced to Warner Bros Records by a friend who was a disc jockey who signed him in 1959. 

Being a stand-up comedian was the furthest thing from his mind but he ended up expanding his material in stand-up routine and performing at night clubs. 

His first comedy album “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart” was the first comedy album to make the number one Billboard charts and went on to win two Grammys.

Bob was then given his own NBC variety show called “The Bob Newhart Show”. That was how his TV journey began.
