Jagoba Arrasate is a retired football player who is the current manager of CA Osasuna

Born in the Basque town of Berriatua and passionate about football from an early age, Arrasate spent most of his playing career in Tercera Division and his native country.

He also played in Segunda B in the Basque group. As a coach, he has managed Numancia, Real Sociedad, Elgoibar, and Berriatuko before Osasuna.

Married his wife

Arrasate is happily married to his wife, with whom he shares three beautiful children.

Out of his three children, his eldest daughter is ten, while others are six and two. The family is residing in Pamplona

His daughter is happy to be in the city, and her way of understanding football is related to that.

She feels that they are safe and are not leaving the city if her father’s team is not in the bottom three.

For her, only the matter of concern is not being in the red zone.

His son came with a loaf of bread under his arm

Arrasate and his spouse gave birth to their third child, son Nico in May 2019

Their son arrived in the world with a loaf of bread under his arm because just a week after the birth of their son, his team Osasuna won promotion to the first division.

According to Arrasate, the team and the whole city were eagerly waiting for Osasuna to get promoted.

A week before the promotion, when his pregnant wife was rushed to hospital, he was stopped by the people where they said there was only a little time left which he thought they were referring to the birth of their son, but they were referring to the promotion.

His spouse at the time said that their son was born with bread under his arm in the form of promotion.

He is compared to Jurgen Klopp

Arrasate is often compared to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. It was Osasuna’s sporting director Braulio Vazquez who first referred him as Osasuna’s Klopp

According to Arrasate, he followed Klopp at Mainz and Dortmund and confessed to liking his style of play where they are always attacking and his style of creating a transition game.

Under his charge, the style of play was similar to that, due to which people started comparing Osasuna with  Liverpool and Arrasate with Klopp

Still a teacher

Arrasate was a teacher in the sixth year of primary and a trainee of an Elgoibar, a village team

But to pursue his football passion, he kept his teaching job aside.

He is still a teacher as his leave from teaching was for five years, which is still running.

His mother still wishes him to get back to teaching so that he can spare his time for his kids on Saturdays and Sundays, but football is his passion which he is not ready to give up.

The hardest part of being a coach

A coach experiences success as well as failure.

There are times when the situation becomes stressful, and the hardest part being a coach, as per Arrasate, is getting home after a defeat.

He describes having to return home after a defeat where his spouse and kids would be longing to see him and spend time with him.

Still, he felt like doing nothing after the defeat, unable to regain his enthusiasm to be the worst feeling ever.

What are the things he is fond of outside football?

Besides football, he is also fond of another sport which is called Jai-alai, a kind of sport played especially in Spain, southwest of France, and in Latin American countries where the ball is bounced off a walled space accelerating at high speed with the handheld wicker Cesta strapping to one’s arm.

A Basque country native, Jagoba is also fond of Bertsolarism, composed Basque music with various melodies and rhyming patterns.

When Osasuna was promoted in 2019, he celebrated success by joining bertso for a tune from Pamplona’s Town Hall balcony

He was an avid fan of Real Sociedad since his early days where he used to travel to Anoeta with his dad to play for the club’s youth team.

His dream was fulfilled when he was signed by Real Sociedad.
