Jacob Pechenik is an American film producer, executive producer, and businessman best recognized as an ex-husband of 500 days of Summer actress Zooey Deschanel. 

As a producer, he has produced Rock the Kasbah, Kiss of the Damned, and The Skeleton Twins. He has served as an executive producer on the movies like Solace, Black or White, Hateship Loveship, We Are What We Are, Life Of Crime, The Immigrant, etc.

Got married in secret

Pechenik and Deschanel first crossed paths on the set of the comedy Rock the Kasbah, where they both worked together where Pechenik was producing the film along with Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, and Kate Hudson starring Deschanel. 

They started dating in mid-2014. Pechenik proposed to her for marriage on her birthday on the 17th of January, 2015. 

The couple had announced that they were expecting their first child a week before their engagement. They got married in secret the same year in August, which they confirmed later.

He filed for divorce amidst his wife’s new romance

The happy marriage only lasted for a few years and officially came to an end after five years in 2020. However, the couple had already separated in January 2019. Pechenik filed for divorce nine months after their separation. 

The couple announced their separation in September in a joint statement where they stated they had decided that they are better off as friends, business partners, and co-parents rather than life partners and will remain committed to their business, values, and above all, their children. 

According to the sources, the divorce was filed just a day after Deschanel officially announced her relationship with Property Brothers' star Jonathan Scott whom she first met at the set of Carpool Karaoke: The Series in 2019. 

The other sources also confirmed that the couple created instant chemistry on the set and was dating after they were spotted walking hand in hand in Silver Lake, California, and was also spotted being affectionate in the audience of Dancing with the Stars on the 30th of September 2019.

The divorce was filed citing irreconcilable differences, which got finalized on the 1st of June in 2020 in Los Angeles Superior court. 

Shares joint custody of their two children

His marriage to Zooey led birth to their two beautiful kids, a son and a daughter. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she had confessed to not wanting to know the gender of the baby till it was born. 

They gave birth to their first child, daughter Elsie Otter in July 2015, and after two years, in May 2017, their second child, son Charlie Wolf Pechenik, was born. 

The ex-couple share joint custody of their two children following their separation in 2020. According to the sources, they have agreed not to split their retirement, pension, and deferred compensation.

Among their two kids, Deschanel revealed Elsie to be an independent girl and less open while her son is always up for a hug and snuggle.

His two kids and business keeps him connected with his ex-wife

Pechenik, in an interview, revealed having an amicable relationship after the split and further added that they have been co-parenting their kids and will continue to take good care of them. 

Though they have parted ways and have moved on with their respective lives, they are still good business partners and the parents of their two kids, which keeps them connected. 

Pechenik co-founded Lettuce Grow with his ex-wife. The company aims to change America’s food supply chain, reconnect them with the food they eat and educate them about where their food comes from. 

Regardless of everything, they are still working together as business partners and seek one another advice since they are aware of each other’s strengths and weaknesses.

A proud father of two is currently relishing his quality time with his kids. He keeps sharing his pictures along with the kids.
