The reason behind their divorce 

Maria filed a divorce in 2013, which was finalized in mid-2014. The reason behind their separation is her husband's infidelity. 

Cavani was cheating on her with another girl while she was pregnant with her second child, Lucas. He was having an affair with an Italian woman named Maria Rosaria Ventrone. 

According to Maria, she did her best to save her marriage for the sake of her children. Still, at the time, her husband had already become a different and unrecognizable person.

His ex-wife won the legal custody

Cavani shares two sons with his ex-wife, Maria Soledad. They first welcomed their son, Bautista, on 22nd March 2011 and their second son, Lucas, on 8th March 2013. 

The saddest part was that they separated in the same year as Lucas was born. In an interview, Cavani said that he divorced his wife, not his children. 

His ex-wife won legal custody, and the court ordered him to pay 25 thousand Euro every month to Maria and her sons to support them.
