Howard Buffett is famous as a father of an American billionaire investor and Berkshire Hathaway CEO, Warren Buffett. 

Howard was a businessman, investor and served as the Republican United States representative for the States of Nebraska.

A simple idea of investing led Warren, a self-made billionaire

Warren is a self-made billionaire who made his fortune applying the philosophy of investing that he acquired from Benjamin Graham while studying at Columbia Business School and later working under him as a system analyst in his firm.  

He was a business enthusiast from an early age. 

He started his small business at the tender age of six by purchasing a six-pack of Coke for 25 cents and selling each can for a nickel, selling magazines from door to door, and later using the saved money in purchasing pinball machines that he placed in a local business.  

He made his first million from his partnership firm at 32, which he later sold. 

From 1962, he began buying the shares of Berkshire Hathaway until he got control of the company. 

He became a textile company Berkshire Hathaway's CEO. 

Since the company's growth was not satisfactory, he kept it as a holding company and started acquiring shares from high-quality companies, which resulted in high profits. 

Gradually, he began investing more and more.

Married life 

Howard married Leila Stahl Buffett, whom he met while studying at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. 

The couple ended up marrying on December 27, 1925. 

After their marriage, they settled in Howard's native city, Omaha, where he started a small brokerage firm.

A complicated relationship of his wife with her kids

Warren, in an Interview, confronted that he had a complex relationship with his mother. 

Though she devoted herself as a housewife, she became an abusive mother to her children. 

She used to lash out verbally until they cried. 

Although she had good parts, her bad parts overcame, due to which her kids remained away from having a relationship with her. 

Her eldest daughter's biography described her as an emotionally abusive mother who grew up being the target of rage often. 

She died in 1996, leaving her fortune to her eldest daughter Doris. Doris acquired Berkshire Hathaway stock from a family trust in 1996.

One of his three children died at the age of 92

Out of his three children, two daughters Doris Buffett, Roberta Buffett Elliott, and son Warren Buffett, his eldest daughter Doris died at 92. 

Founder of the Sunshine Lady Foundation and The letters Foundation, Doris died in August 2020 at her home in Rockport, Maine, surrounded by friends and families. 

His youngest daughter Roberta Buffett is also a philanthropist. 

Net Worth

Howard is no more in this world, but he became the first inspiration and number one teacher to his son, who is now the third wealthiest man on the earth. 

He was the one to instill interest in books and investing. 

In an interview, Warren said that his best gift he was ever given was to have a father he had when he was born.
