She is the niece of an award-winning actor Joel Bissonnette who is best recognized for his work in the Australian-American science fiction psychological horror film, The Invisible Man.

Matthew's message to sexual abuse survivors not to stay silent

According to Matthew, he believes that there are victims of sexual abuse who haven't had a chance to come forward and got the help they need. 

He also shared his own experience of being sexually abused by his late hockey coach, John Garland, while attending Law School at Queen's University. 

The purpose of speaking about his sexual abuse was to encourage the victims of sexual abuse, past or current, and not to stay silent as there are answers, there is hope, and there is justice.
