His tough childhood and the last moment with his father

Born in Dronten, Ziyech had a tough childhood growing up. He grew up alongside his eight siblings. 

Talking about his parents, he was just 10 when his father passed away, and his mother became a single mom. 

Ziyech, in an interview, recalled his last moment with his father. 

He said it was a cold winter after Christmas, and his father was lying in bed with his health worsening after having been ill for some time. 

Then 10-year-old Ziyech wanted to stay with him though he had to go to bed. 

He fell asleep at the edge of the bed and woke up around midnight, and went to his room. 

But then, around 3 in the morning, he went to the living room, having heard the mourning of his family members. His father was no more. 

Following the death of his father, he considered quitting football, but it was his mentor Doufikar who convinced him by saying that he needed to keep doing it for his father. 

His brothers played the role of the father, taking care of him until the age of 14. He left home to play in Heerenveen and later ended up in a foster home. 

But his relationship with his family is still as stronger as ever.

Ziyech says his mother is already 70 and cannot walk as well as stand the tension, so she no longer can come to the stadium to watch him play, but he knows she is proud of him. 

Whenever she watches his game on TV, she tells him how she feels when he is tackled.

The story behind his nickname 

Ziyech is nicknamed the Wizard, but how did he get the nickname? He got his nickname after one game. 

According to Ziyeach, he played one good game while at Ajax, and the day after the game, one of the guys on social media posted something with the name the Wizard, and from that day onwards, people started calling him Wizard. 

Even these days, after leaving Ajax, people still call him by his nickname and always use that emoji on social media. 

He is not afraid to have his opinion

Ziyech has been very outspoken. He once made his statement about his former boss at Heerenveen, Marco van Basten, being a big name but not a big coach. 

Similarly, he was removed from his captaincy while at Twente after his disrespectful comments against the club. Ziyech says he is not afraid to have his opinion. 

He always speaks from his heart, what he is feeling, and he is just saying. 

He is not afraid of how they take it, and it does not matter what other clubs and people think about him because he always believes in his strength in the end, which matters the most.

Ziyech says all those things that happened in the past while playing in the streets with older boys made him hard as a person. 

According to him, when he was younger and playing in the streets against older boys, they didn’t back down even when he was too good for them. 

They were always kicking, and all those things made him hard and helped him grow stronger.

Ziyech has not yet discussed his personal life publicly. But he was spotted with Aja Narie, an influencer, content creator, and blogger, quite often. 

Narie shares a daughter with her then-boyfriend, who sadly passed away. She was just 15 when she first gave birth. 

When Aja Narie announced her pregnancy for the second time, people speculated to be his. 

But Ziyech has not publicly talked about his girlfriend or relationship status.
