Gerald Baticle

Gerald Baticle is a French-born professional football manager and a former player who is the current manager of Angers. 

He spent a decade serving as an assistant coach for Lyon before taking over Angers in 2021. Before Lyon, he had a brief stint at Brest.

Football became his profession since the age of 19

Passionate about football from a very young age, Baticle grew up playing football with his father and brother. 

His father, who was a baker, also played football as a midfielder for the club of the village. 

Football became a part of his life, and he was ready to sacrifice anything that would come by. 

It became his profession at the age of 19. To this date, most of his time will be allocated for football, even if he is interested in other sports.

Had a stunning playing career with Auxerre

As a former player, he played as a striker and was a part of the AJ Auxerre team, which reached the semi-final of the UEFA Cup, where he was the top goal scorer. 

Further, he went on winning Coupe de France with Auxerre in 1994. 

He played four seasons with Auxerre between 1991-1995. He then joined Strasbourg, where he spent three seasons and captained the team after Leboeuf's departure in 1996. 

He was part of Strasbourg's League cup victory in 1997. 

Besides that, he also played for Metz, Troyes, and Le Havre before starting his coaching career in 2005.

His experience in Brest enriched him

Baticle achieved his coaching diploma in 2003. His coaching journey began with his former club Auxerre where he experienced successful three seasons as an under-18 team coach. 

In his three seasons, he led the team to the Coupe Gambardella final. 

He took over Brest in 2008 but was sacked from the post in six months following the poor results. 

His time at Brest ended with seven wins, seven draws, and twelve defeats in all the competitions.

According to Baticle, his experience in Brest enriched and hardened him, leading him to ask himself several questions. 

The arrival at Brest was quite difficult for him since he was coming out of his playing career and four years as an educator at Auxerre. 

He further added being among the coaches who needed to put their methods in place than being among the coaches who can adapt. 

His experience helped him transition himself to finding the answers to his questions.

His influence on Angers 

Gerald describes himself as a passionate, hardworking, and meticulous coach with strong ideas and the ability to adapt, which reflects him. 

His hard work and ability to adapt have changed Angers in a short period. 

He has shaped the club and the players who have become a treat to eyes to watch the Angers game. 

After the spectacular season started with second place in the standings with Angers, Baticle soon came up with the idea of a second cycle with new adversaries, a new problem to solve, keeping the objectives clear and same. 

As continuing to progress, posing problems to their adversaries always has been their objective. 

They have been relying on the video to help their players progress. 

Baticle feels that they must not be carried away, which may lead to overconfidence but feel there must be a balance continuity to gain strength.
