Geffri Hightower

Geffri Hightower is an American actress and model notable for her role as Simone in both All American and All American: Homecoming. 

She grew up in South Central Los Angeles and attended Clark Atlanta University, where she studied Journalism.

She was raised by a single mom

There is not much information about Geffri’s parents, but she was raised by a single mom. 

Her mother, Stephanie Renee Hightower, and her grandmother were the two people she mostly relied upon. 

Her mom was always pushing her to want more out of her life. She says her hometown South Central is a stepping stone for her. 

She wouldn’t be who she is today without being where she is from, and above that, it was her mom who instilled in her the desire to dream big.

There was a moment in her life when she decided she didn't want to act anymore

Geffri grew up watching shows like Barney, Zoom, and Out of the Box and would ask her mom why she couldn't go there. 

But her mom didn't understand at the time what she meant. Geffri always knew she always wanted to be a performer and artist. 

She started from Broadway at the early age of nine. She was six or seven when she began dancing with Debbie Allen, so she didn't have a normal childhood. 

But when she was in high school, she had been burnt out since she had been doing it on a professional level from an early age. 

She was training 40 to 60 hours a week, so it wasn't like what normal kids were doing. 

The only mindset she had was attending class, eating, training, performing, sleeping, and again the same routine. 

It was like the same old routine all those years, so she felt like she needed to live a life and explore.

And since then, everything she did post-high school, she started questioning if it was the right thing for her to do. 

She then went to college, where she felt she was experiencing something different than what was normal for her. 

Her new normal was again doing daily things to add to survival, like getting a good education learning what it meant to get a job, taking good care of herself, and getting her own apartment. 

But after a while, she felt like she wasn't secured in the direction she was going. So, as soon as she finished college, she moved to Clark, Atlanta. 

By the time she reached her sophomore year, she felt she had done partying, school, college, and job things, so what else must she be doing? 

She prayed to God if acting is what she is supposed to be doing or creating and just being creative is supposed to be what led her, then please let it come back to her in a most organic way. 

She then started taking classes again and started looking at things through a different lens. After she prayed, she just started feeling different.

She started training in tennis for the show

Giffri didn’t grow up as a tennis player, but she took training to fit in the character she has been playing in the All American: Homecoming as Simone Hicks, who is a tennis player and college athlete. 

According to her, she has been training in tennis since she discovered the pilot was even going to happen because she didn’t want to go without immersing herself in the sport. 

So, she started training, got a personal trainer, and was working out three times, training three times a week. 

She wanted to respect and honor the sport, especially black female athletes like Serena and Venus Williams, Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka, etc. She said having to discover what the sport actually means beyond just hitting the ball is a whole new world.
