Frederic Antonetti is a French-born professional football manager and a former player.

He is the current manager of Ligue 1 side Metz. In more than three decades of his managing career, he has managed Bastia, Gamba Osaka, Saint-Etienne, Nice, Rennes, and Lille before taking over Metz in 2018

In his first season, he showed his impact, bringing Metz back to Ligue 1, which was previously relegated to Ligue 2 from Ligue 1.

As a former player, he played as a midfielder for Bastia, Beziers, and Le Puy

He lost his wife following a long term illness

Frederic was married to Veronique. Unfortunately, he lost his wife in July 2020. She had been ill for a long time.

He had to step back from his managerial post at Metz to be with his ill wife at Corsica. He was beside his spouse at the time of her last breath.

After the tragic loss of his beloved spouse, it took some time for Frederick to return to work. He was reappointed at FC Metz in October. His absence was filled by Vincent Hognon until his return.

Frederic has chosen to keep his personal life out of the spotlight. Nothing is known about his family background and his children.

His achievements so far

After a short span of his playing career, he stepped into his managerial career in 1990 with his former club Bastia where he coached youth level before progressing into the senior team in 1994

His four years at the helm helped the club reach the Coupe de la Ligue final before losing against Paris Saint-Germain

His three years at Saint-Etienne helped the club to get promoted to Ligue 1 and also led the club to the semi-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue

His four years at Nice helped the club reach the finals of the Coupe de la Ligue before losing against Nancy

Furthermore, after his fours at the helm of Rennes, he left on mutual consent. After moving to Lille, he guided the club to Coupe de la Ligue

His philosophy

Frederic believes that no one should let themselves get swayed away either with praise or criticism and stresses in keeping feet on the ground.

To keep lucidity and clairvoyance by analyzing the game is what he has been trying to repeat afterward for the betterment of players and the club.

According to him, they are more interested in focusing on every game than the ranking because it is through the games one can excel.

After Metz lost the game against Nantes during the second day of Ligue 1, he admitted to being disappointed with the players rather than angry because some of the players were far below what they could do.

He further added, saying the players will be summoned to his office where they will be discussing the games and giving solutions to the players as there is always room to do better.

Adding a little humor, he said he would not be hanging the players.
