Franco Foda

Franco Foda is a German football manager and a former player who is currently the head coach for Austria National Team. Franco has Italian roots, and that is because of his father. 

His father comes from the Lagoon city from Venice. His mother is German. Franco even had an Italian passport until he was seven. Franco was born in Mainz, Germany. 

He grew up with his three siblings, two brothers and a sister. He discovered his love for football at the tender age of six.

First German to coach Austria

Franco was announced the head coach for Austria National Team in October 2017 with effect from January 2018. 

Franco moved to Austria in 1997 after playing for West Germany, where he won two caps against Brazil and Argentina under coach Franz Beckenbauer. 

He is the first German to coach Austria. His contract was until the end of 2019 with the contract extension if Austria qualifies for European Championship 2020. 

Under his management, Austria played 22 matches, out of which they won 14, lost six, and two were drawn. 

As a result, Austria qualified for the European Championship 2020, making his contract extended. This is the second time for Austria to get qualified for the championship to date. 

How did he meet his future wife? 

Franco is happily married to his spouse of 35 years, Herzblatt Andrea.

Franco’s brother-in-law (Andrea’s brother) was his teammate at Mainz 05, due to which the couple got an opportunity to see each other quite often at games. 

However, it was Franco who initiated first. It took him two years to turn the friendship into love. 

After two years, he finally mustered the courage to propose to her. They married on May 2nd, 1986, and have been inseparable since then. 

His wife is always a fan of the team he manages

His wife has been a constant supporter of him and the team he manages. 

According to Herzblatt Andrea, she feels excited and nervous at the same time before the games and will be somewhat relieved only after the final whistle if the team wins. 

As per Franco, the two days before the game, she becomes restless and asks him how the players are feeling and if the teams are trained well. Andrea further added she is a fan of the teams that her husband trains.

Both of his sons are players

Franco is the father of his two sons, Sandro and Marco. They moved to Graz with their sons in summer 1997. Their sons grew up in Graz. 

Both of his sons are players. His elder son Sandro Foda, 31, is a professional footballer. He has played for Sturm Graz, TSV Hartberg and SV Wildon. 

He currently plays as a midfielder and is a youth coach at SV Wildon. His other son Marco, 29,  is currently playing for the club SV Pachern.

Franco is one of the hard-working managers. As a manager, he has previously managed Sturm Graz and FC Kaiserslautern.
