Life And Education

Felix Sanchez Bas is a Spanish-born professional football coach who is currently the head coach of the Qatar National football team.

He is the former Barcelona youth coach. He started his coaching career quite young.

He was in his early twenties when he began coaching the Barcelona youth club.

It’s been quite a journey since arriving in Qatar, says Felix.

Felix moved to Qatar in 2006 after having managed Barcelona youth for a decade.

According to him, Barcelona has a particular philosophy of football. He learned a lot during his time with the club.

When he arrived in Qatar, he tried to adapt the philosophy of Qatar, its culture, and the philosophy of the players.

He says Qatar has its own philosophy and way of play which they need to adapt and cannot be compared with Barcelona or any other teams.

At the time, the whole country had only 220 registered players. On the one hand, it had its advantage as things would be much easier to manage and control.

On the other hand, the disadvantage was that the fewer the players, the fewer the probability of getting talented players.

Felix says it’s the country that makes the plan; the development program worked well and was well organized.

He joined the Aspire Academy, where kids from 6 to 18 would train there during the week and, on weekends, would leave the country to compete against the best teams that would help them become more competitive.

He took charge of the Under-19s in 2013.

In 2014, he led the team to the AFC U-19 championship victory and were qualified for the U-20 World Cup in New Zealand, which was a sign that they were on the right path, and their ability to compete with the strongest teams in Asia was a signal for the country that what it has been doing was the right thing to do.

However, there is not always a win and also not always a loss.

Just a month after he took over Qatar national team, they were in England preparing for the last two World Cup qualifying match that was going to be held in Russia.

They didn’t qualify for the World Cup in Russia and were eliminated from the Arabian Gulf cup after they lost in the group stage.

Their consistent effort and what they were doing was believed despite the poor result that encouraged them to work harder, and the Asian Cup title in 2019 proved it all.

The same year in May, he extended his contract until the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Felix says they have managed to achieve success together with the Asian Cup, but that is just another step in the journey, and they should not think they have crossed the finish line.

Married life

Felix is a very private person and keeps his personal life out of the spotlight. But he is married to his spouse, with whom he shares children.

However, the exact date of the wedding is yet to know. During an interview, he mentioned his family, his wife and his children.

He said his father and brother traveled from Spain to watch the Asian Cup final.

When his team won the Asian up, he said he spoke to his wife and children on the phone.

According to Felix, his wife and children are the only ones who really know the sacrifices they had had to make spending so many days apart from one another.
