Konsa was born in Newham, Greater London. He has mixed roots. 

His father is from DRC, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and his mother is from Angola, so he grew up speaking two different languages at home. 

His brother is his biggest influence

Konsa is the middle child of three siblings, an older brother and a younger sister. 

He grew up watching his brother play Sunday League, and that was when he fell in love with the sport. He credits his brother for where he is today. 

The area where they grew up was rough, where there were a lot of stabbings and killings. It was football that helped him 100 percent, he told Athletic. 

His brother guided him towards the right path and supported him throughout, whether they were playing away or at home.

His career so far 

Konsa aspired to become a professional footballer and there was no plan B. He began his career with Senrab. 

A local scout had watched him play and invited then-10-year-old Konsa to give a six-week trial at Charlton. He joined Charlton at the age of 11. 

At 15, Charlton offered him a scholarship. With his impressive performance, he was soon called up to train with the senior team and play with Under-21s. 

In December 2015, he signed his first professional contract, and after eight days, he was included in the squad for a Championship match versus Burnley. 

He remained an unused substitute in a 4-0 loss. After two years, he joined the championship club Brentford.

In the 2016-17 pre-season, he broke through making his debut in the EFL Cup defeat against Cheltenham Town. 

He became the mainstay, finishing the campaign with 39 appearances. 

He again became a mainstay during the 2017-18 seasons with 47 appearances as Charlton reached the League One play-off semi-finals.

He joined Brentford in June 2018. He scored the first goal of his career in a 3-0 win over Preston North End on the final day of his 2018-19 season. 

On the 11th of July 2019, he joined Aston Villa and scored on his debut for Aston Villa in an EFL Cup tie against Crewe Alexandra in August. 

He scored his first Premier goal in a 1-1 away draw at Everton in July 2020.

After scoring twice in a 2-1 Premier League victory over Leicester City, Konsa became the first defender to score twice in a Premier League match for Villa since 2010. 

Internationally, Konsa was part of the England squad that won the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup. 

He was listed in the Under-21 squad for the 2018 Toulon Tournament.

In October 2018, he scored his first international goal in a 7-0 victory over Andorra in a 2019 UEFA European Under-21 championship qualification.

Although Konsa received his first call-up for the England Senior team in November 2023 ahead of their UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Malta and North Macedonia, he didn't play in either match. 

He made his debut coming as a 20th-minute substitute in a 1-0 defeat to Brazil at Wembley Stadium in a friendly match.

Back in November 2023, he mentioned his girlfriend saying his girlfriend couldn’t hold back the tears after Konsa was called up for the England senior team. 

According to him, he was driving home on the M1 with his girlfriend, and they were planning to go on holiday somewhere when his phone suddenly rang. 

It was a call from Ruth Corry, who works for the Football Association’s team operations, saying he was in a squad. 

He said it didn’t sink in until he got home. It was a dream come true, as he was waiting for so long to play for the national team. 

He then added, saying that his missus was crying a bit and was more excited than him.
