Eric Atkinson is famous for his celebrity son. He is the late father of Actor Rowan Atkinson, renowned worldwide for his most iconic character Mr. Bean.

A P.H.D student studying electrical engineering who later ended up his sketch comedy career; began his career with the B.B.C. Radio 3 comedy show The Atkinson People, which he co-wrote with Richard Curtis. 

Soon after, he got a gig on his first T.V. show, Not The Nine O'Clock News, and later on, the series called Blackadder followed with its sequels. 

Atkinson's interest in visual comedy was based on discovering a film by Jacques Tati, which gave him the idea of creating Mr. Bean, a fictional character who looks odd, behaves odd, and has an odd solution to problems, or we can say a childish character in grown-up man body. 

The story of Mr. Bean is inextricably bound with the story of his life and experiences. Whenever they tried to think Mr. Bean about his reactions to situations, Rowan would imagine Bean as himself as a nine-year-old him.

As a child, Rowan had a shy nature and didn't have many friends because they often bullied him for his stammering habit and looks, which replicates Mr. Bean's nature, who also didn't have friends. 

Married to his wife

Eric married Ella Mary Bainbridge. The couple got married on June 29, 1945. After marrying, Ella moved to Consett and was a homemaker before getting fame as Rowan's mother.

Eric worked as a farmer

Eric worked as a farmer and later as a company director.  He earned quite well, due to which he provided his children with the privilege to attend quality schools and universities.

Eric is a father to his four children, and all were sons. Rowan is the youngest of his four sons. One of his sons, Paul, died while he was an infant.

Victim of death hoax time and again

Rowan has become the victim of hoax time and again though he is not dead. The first hoax went viral on July 17, where the article claimed Rowan's death while doing a stunt. 

Another article also claimed his false death. In 2018 another hoax claimed his life following a car accident while performing the stunt in Los Angeles. It was spread widely via Twitter and Facebook. 

The attempt was done deliberately to spread the virus, sometimes trying to get the caller's credit card information after sharing the site with a security test to watch the video. 

Obsession with cars

Rowan is highly obsessed with cars and has a huge collection of them. His fondness for cars emerged from his childhood when he used to drive his father's tractor. 

He has a total of 15 cars starting which are JAGUAR MK7, McLaren f1, Rolls Royce Ghost, BMWI3, Aston Martin Vantage, Mercedes -Benz  SLS AMG, Bentley Mulsanne Birkin, Aston Martin Vantage, Johny English Rolls Royce, Land Rover Defender 90 heritage, Lancia Thema 8.32 series 1, Skoda Superb, Mercedes –Benz 500E, Ford Falcon and AudiA8. 

He sold his McLaren f1 for $ 12.2 million after crashing twice.
