Dragan Skocic is a Croatian professional football manager and a former player who is currently the head coach of the Iran national team.
His background and early career
Skocic was born in Rijeka, Croatia. He started his early playing career with the local club Rijeka as a midfielder in 1987.
His stint at Spanish football clubs Las Palmas and Compostela made him the first player from Croatia to play abroad.
He returned to his former club Rijeka in 1996. He played for Novalja between 2001 and 2004 before he hung up his boots in 2004 after a short stint at Al-Ittihad.

After retiring from his playing career, Skocic went on to complete the Football Academy at the Croatian Football Academy and the Coach Education and Training Department at the Zagreb Faculty of Kinesiology.
After receiving the UEFA-PRO Coach Diploma and a Professional Bachelor of the Coaching Profession, he became the manager of his hometown club Rijeka in 2005 and led the team to win the Croatian Cup in the 2005-06 season.
In 2007, he became the head coach of Interblock Ljubljana and led the club out of the difficult situation the club was facing on the league scale by guiding the club to stay in the first league.
Not only that, he led the team to win trophies twice. The team won the 2007-08 season, the Slovenian Cup, and a Super Cup.
He then became the head coach of the Al-Arabi club in the 2009-10 season and guided the team to the Crown Prince Cup and the Federation Cup finals.
He returned to his hometown club after a short stint at Al Nassr football club in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Still, just after 43 days, he was relieved from his duty following a series of poor results, after which he took over Malavan on a two-year contract.
Under his charge, he led the club to their best league finish since 2005.
He was with Foolad from 2014 to 2016, Khooneh be Khooneh in 2018, Sanat Naft in 2019 before he took over Iran in 2020.
