Donny van de Beek

Donny van de Beek is a renowned Dutch professional footballer who is a midfielder at Manchester United and the Netherlands national team. 

He was born to his parents, Gerdina van de Beek and Andre van de Beek in Nijkerkerveen, Netherland.

Donny was first introduced to football by his father

Born and raised in a middle-class family in the small town of the Netherlands, Donny was always playing around and climbing trees in his farmhouse until he discovered a football game at the age of four. 

In the year 2001, his father took him to watch Ajax’s game in Amsterdam. After watching the Ajax game, Ajax became his dream club. 

His football journey began at six, joining the local club, Veensche Boys. While at Veensche Boys, he was also training with some other local clubs, but he always aspired to play at Ajax and often said to his dad that he wanted to become an Ajax player. 

His dream came true after joining Ajax in 2008. He made his way through the D team to his first senior debut in 2015 in a 2-1 victory over Celtic in the Europa League. 

He developed as a player at Ajax and established himself as a key player contributing to the club to reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League campaign in the 2018-19 season. 

He was also awarded several titles and was among the 30 short-listed men for Ballon d’Or.

He confessed to working hard to earn his place in Manchester United

Donny was signed by Manchester United in 2020 from Ajax on a five-year contract, but still, he is fighting for his place in the club. 

Since his arrival at the club, he only made 4 Premier League appearances out of 19 and had a tough start of the season with a few appearances. 

In an interview with Rio Ferdinand, Donny confessed how he has been working hard for his moment to arrive at the club following the continued absence from the team. 

He described the period as difficult when there were no other options besides waiting for the chance. 

However, he understands that it takes time for everyone to adapt but not being able to play makes him unhappy. 

He admitted trusting his former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who instilled hope in him by saying he wanted him in the team. 

After the dismissal of Ole Gunnar, he gave a rare appearance under the charge of Michael Carrick before Ralf Rangnick took over the new interim manager role at the club.

With the arrival of Rangnick, the question has arisen if Donny will get another chance to prove himself at the club.

His younger sibling also played football

Donny and his younger sibling Rody van de Beek grew up alongside each other, playing football joining the local club Veensche Boys. 

The brothers share an incredible bond. Donny is not only a good player but also a good brother. In an interview, Rody confessed that his brother never left him during his illness.

He was having a tough time having to deal with personal trauma as his brother was hospitalized with a tumor on his back. 

After the operation, when Rody saw his brother again, he realized his brother has always been there for him. 

During his difficult time, his Ajax teammate Abdelhak Nouri supported him by paying tribute to his brother Rody by wearing a white t-shirt with Rody’s picture alongside printed word strength in the youth game. 

Since then, Donny and Abdelhak have become best of friends.

Donny chose to wear a 34 jersey to tribute his best friend Nouri, who collapsed and suffered a cardiac arrhythmia during a pre-season friendly match in 2017 that left him severe and permanent brain damage. 

Along with him, former Ajax and Dutch teammates adopted Nouri’s shirt number at their new club tributing Nouri.

In a beautiful relationship with his girlfriend

Donny is in a beautiful relationship with his girlfriend, Estelle Bergkamp. The couple began dating after their first meet in Amsterdam. 

Estelle is not only famous for being a girlfriend of Donny, but she is also famous as the daughter of Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp. 

Estelle was born in England when her father was playing for Arsenal. Dennis ended up lifting three Premier Leagues titles during the 11 years of his playing career at Arsenal.

Since the couple announced their pregnancy during the reign of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the former Ajax star Andy van der Meyde was quick with the name suggestion.
