Anne's relationship with Ellen DeGeneres caused her to lose millions of dollars
Anne and Ellen DeGeneres were in a romantic relationship for three years. They first met at the 1997 Vanity Fair Oscar party. They soon started dating.
Anne later revealed that Ellen was the first woman whom she dated, and she slept with Ellen on the first night they met.
Six months after they started dating, Anne wanted to go public about her relationship at the premiere of Volcano but wasn't allowed to do so.
She recalled being told that if she attended the premiere with Ellen, she would end up losing her contract with Fox.
Anne was a promising star and was at the peak of her career.
In August of 1997, Anne went public with her relationship with Ellen after taking her to the premiere anyway. Ellen was 11 years older than her.
At the time, same-sex romance or marriages were not accepted as of now.
So Anne was ushered out by the security even before the movie ended and was told she was not allowed to go to her after party as they feared Anne would be pictured with a woman.

She then attended another premiere with Ellen, but after that, she realized that the acting offers for her had started to decline.

She revealed that the stigma attached to the relationship was so bad that she didn't get to do a studio picture for ten years, and she was fired from a picture deal of 10 million dollars.
Anne revealed in an interview in 2021 that her ex-girlfriend was a money-hungry bitch who, in some way, sabotaged her career in the middle of their split.
She added that the main reason behind their broke up was that Anne wanted to find true love, whereas Ellen wanted to possess a lot of money and would say she wanted 60 billion dollars.
Anne also revealed that Ellen even controlled the way she dressed. Anne was soo disturbed after the break-up that she was admitted to a psychiatric unit.
Even after she ended up getting small roles, she had to promote those movies on the show of Ellen, and Ellen didn't allow her to do so.
