Domen Skofic

Domen Skofic is a professional sports climber and a rock climber. 

He was born on April 11, 1994, in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He was born and raised there. 

He is Slovenian by nationality. He is the son of Pavel Skofic. His mother’s name has not been known yet.

Who was Domen inspired from?

Domen was always a sports guy. Since his childhood days, he was dedicated to sports. 

Since his father was interested in skiing, he made him involved in skiing from his childhood which made him bored with the whole idea of skiing. 

Due to this, he was leaned into other sports rather than skiing. 

He was interested in many sports activities, but the real question was which sport will Domen choose as a profession. And the answer was rock climbing.

He was inspired by his close friend who used to go climbing, and hence, by his friend’s influence, he also tried climbing for the first time in primary school at the age of six. 

While doing that, he felt terrific and started knowing that he was pretty good at climbing. 

Then he got interested in climbing. After that, he professionally got into climbing and became the youngest climber at the age of 11.

After he was totally into climbing, he started watching legendary climber Fred Dibnah.  

Domen was so much inspired by Fred and his climbing skills that he started learning from him. He followed his inspiration from then.

Is he dating anyone?

Domen Skofic likes to keep his personal life private, even though he is a celeb. 

He has never revealed his relationship or anything about his family and other personal stuff to the date. 

Although he hasn’t revealed his personal life, Domen has been dating Janja Garnbret, a professional climber. 

They both climbed the highest Chimney in Europe, which is the world’s highest route for climbers. 

This was the first time for Janja, while it was the second time for Domen. 

They both had a great experience with each other, and both of them had enjoyed it. 

They had been dating each other for many years. They met through their climbing career, thought they were compatible and started dating each other.

Has Domen ever got into an accident?

Domen had never got into a fatal accident, but he had spoken about how an accident occurs to a climber while climbing and results in their loss of life. 

According to Domen’s experience and learning, threatening weather crashes, falling darkness, getting lost in descent, and jammed ropes while rappelling is the primary cause of the accident while climbing.

What did he accomplish from climbing?

Domen has won a lot of national and international medals and awards throughout his career. 

Domen is known for winning World Cup in Lead Climbing in the year 2016. 

He has won 14 medals, including some gold medals, silver medals, and few bonze medals. 

In 2014 he won three medals in World Championship. He won a silver medal and two bronze medals.  

He won the gold medal in the year 2012 in European Championship. In the same competition, he won the Bronze medal on the year 2013.

His journey to becoming a professional climber 

Skofic was six when he first started climbing, but before that, he was already into ski slopes because of his father, who invented carving skis. 

So they put him into skiing, but he didn’t like the sport because he thought it was way too much. 

He discovered climbing at six and thought of trying as he was always climbing trees and kinds of stuff and his mother also thought he should give it a try.

Initially, his father wished him to become a skier but then, seeing him more interested in climbing, he supported him wholeheartedly. 

Skofic says Slovenia still has a bad infrastructure for climbing these days, which was worst when he started climbing. 

They only had small walls in the cellars where he started at his primary school, but it was just 30 square meters of walls. 

His first competition was when he was ten, but that went bad. At that point, he thought that the sport was not for him and considered quitting, but then he was like, Who Cares? 

As he liked the sport and thought he would just keep on trying. 

When he was on the rock for the first time, he instantly fell in love with everything the sports have to offer, and he said to himself, what does it matter? 

He will just go to competitions and try to enjoy it as much as possible. Next year, he went on to win almost all the competitions in nationals. 

He was into the Slovenian youth team first, and when he started traveling, especially on rock trips, he really felt that connection. 

Also, the team gradually became his second family. 

While on the youth team, he also got training from senior teams, and he thought he could also be good in World Cups, so he progressed from the youth to that point.

In 2016, he won the IFSC climbing World Cup in Lead climbing which was dreamlike for him because he topped all the roots and was leading all the way. 

After the World Cup, he had an incredible next season because he won overall.

At the same time, the season to come was more challenging, and he sort of felt the pressure of being the favorite and everything else. 

It was hard to say true to himself when he had done something more than he ever expected. 

It took him two years to win again. Though it took a long time, he says he liked it because it was the same experience of winning again. 

If he would win every time, it would be boring but going down and rising back up just feels more amazing.
