Diego Martinez

Diego Martinez is a Spanish professional football manager. He is a former player who spent most of his youth career with Celta (nine years). 

Martinez was just 20 when he hung up his boots to pursue his coaching career starting from youth categories Imperio Albolote while playing for the senior at the same time. 

He then joined Arenas Armilla as an assistant coach. He was named coach of the first team in 2006. 

After Armilla, he spent two seasons at Motril before joining Sevilla C. 

After a brief stint, and he joined the coaching staff of the first team. 

He was in charge of Sevilla B for three-season before taking over Osasuna and later Granada. 

He left Granada after three successful seasons with the club

After having spent three successful seasons with Granada, Martinez decided not to renew his contract further. 

His contract expired on 30th June. He was appointed the manager of Granada on 14th June 2018, which was the best decision ever for Martinez and the club. 

He led the club to win the promotion to La Liga at the end of his first season. 

In his second season, he was successful in his debut in UEFA Europa League for the first time in its history, where the club was able to reach the quarter-finals. 

In his third and the last season, he led the club to ninth place. 

His contribution and hard work for the club have left an indelible mark in the club’s history. 

He is the first coach to have completed three seasons successfully without interruption.

He met his wife at the University

Martinez graduated with a sports science degree from Granada University. 

He met his future wife, who is also a Galician, while studying at the University. The couple shares a beautiful daughter.

The passion for being the coach and desire to continue progressing is still the same today as it was before. 

As a coach, he has always made a rule for him, which is an attempt to be the best coach he could be at all times, which has been his philosophy of life. 

For him, the understanding of football has not changed. It is the same as it depended on the resources and organizing suitable characteristics of his players to better together as a whole.

His focus will be not only on his players but also on his rival by focusing on how he can make his rival team uncomfortable.

According to him, emotions magnify everything as there are no motivational pills. 

They should be using that emotion in correcting the mistakes, not harming the confidence.

The thing that describes him the best is that he is a good listener. 

He wants his players to express what they feel about things that make him feel better and the players to be better. 

Another player, Central midfielder of Granada, said that he was the best coach for Granada and could talk all night about him. 

Roberto expressed his gratitude via Instagram posts for giving him the illusion to keep playing football, feel important, and make him the best of himself and wished him luck.
