Who are her parents?

She was born to Rick and Teresa Kaepernick. 

She was raised in Wisconsin before the family moved to California because of her father's job as the senior vice president of the growth and development of Hilmar Cheese Company. 

Her father spent the majority of his career in the cheese industry. While her mother worked as a nurse.

Her parents adopted Colin when he was six weeks old

Colin is her adoptive brother. 

Her parents adopted him in 1987 when he was just six weeks old. Colin's biological mother is Heidi Russo, who gave birth to him when she was 19. 

According to Russo, when she found she was pregnant with Colin, she told Colin's biological father but was told he had nothing to do with her and her child. 

She called her father as well. Her father said she had a few options and but she didn’t know what she wanted to do. 

But when she was conversing with her mother, they had an argument because her mother told her not to keep the baby. 

They didn’t talk for the next three or four months. 

She knew she couldn't abort him, so she wanted to go through the adoption process and was seeking a family who could raise him well. 

She was six months pregnant when she contacted an attorney who suggested a couple who were willing to adopt, but the couple was already telling her what he would do in the future, which she didn’t like because most of her family members played football, her grandfather, her dad, her uncle and even Colin’s biological father Jeff so she wanted him to be an athlete. 

After rejecting several other couples, she thought of raising on her own, but at the same time, she was scared to raise a baby at 19 years old, barely supporting herself. 

After her dad recommended his social worker friend, she met her. She was introduced to the Kaepernick family by her. 

According to Russo, she chose the Kaepernick family because they were the ones she was looking for her child. 

They were stable and were searching for a biracial child to adopt, which at the time didn't happen often.

She has one biological brother

Besides her adoptive brother, Devon has a biological brother named Kyle Kaepernick.

She would have two more biological brothers, but unfortunately, they died quite early on because they had heart defects after they were born.

She is happily married

Devon is happily married and shares two beautiful kids with her husband. They have been married for more than a decade. 

The beautiful family is currently residing in Turlock, California. 

Colin accused her parents of Racism 

Colin accused her parents, his adoptive parents, of Racism during an interview with CBS’s Adriana Diaz. 

He said he knew his parents loved him, but despite that, they were still problematic things that he went through. 

”I think it was important to show that, no, this can happen in your home and how you move forward collectively while addressing the racism that is perpetuated,” he expressed. 

Then he went on to reveal that his adoptive mother said his hair was not professional and that he looked like a thug when he had cornrows as a child. 

And those become spaces where it’s like, How does he navigate this situation now but at the same time, it has also informed why he has his long hair today, he added.
