In an interview, she said she aspired to become a nurse growing up until an incident made her change her mind.
She saw a dog hit by the lorry on the streets, and seeing the dog drenched in blood, she couldn't take it and realized she couldn't be a nurse.
A few days later, she went out with her friends and a sister.
A taxi driver heard her singing while they were in the taxi and said to her that his mate was looking for a singer in his band. It was how it all started.
She had a recording contract in which they were arguing about the percentage they were getting so she decided not to do but they had taken a photograph of her and when they returned, they all had Washington on them.
She thought she would change her name back to her real name but by then people had already known her by Ruby Washington.

Delsi-May was married to a Jamaican-born Steven Watkins.
Together, they gave birth to their five kids, four sons, Richie, Dale, Ollie, and Jordan, and a daughter, Charlotte.

Her son's football journey
Ollie's football journey began at the age of eight with a friend coming over to his house who was going to training that evening.
He went alongside him and ended up joining the team Newton Town. He was then scouted by Exeter City.
Initially, Ollie didn't get through because he was used to playing with his friends and it not being so serious, and although he discovered he was as good as other players, he couldn't concentrate.
He was asked to come after six weeks, but that was not enough for him, so he returned after 18 months.
He would play for his club team on Saturday and would play on Sunday for Exeter. It wasn't until around 14 or 15 that he got a bit serious.
He progressed through the youth ranks and got into the first team in 2014.
He made his breakthrough at the club, winning the EFL Young Player of the Year award.
He was then loaned out to Weston-super-Mare before joining Brentford in 2017.
