Darlene Mowry

Darlene Mowry is a producer and executive, mostly famous as the mother of American actress, television personality, and former singer Tamera Mowry and her twin sister, actress Tia Mowry. 

She is of Afro-Bahamian descent.

As a producer and executive, she is known for her work in Seventeen Again (2000), Double Wedding (2010), and The Poof Point (2001).

How did she meet her future husband?

Mowry met her husband, Timothy John Mowry, in high school in Miami, Florida. 

They both joined the U.S. Army and reached the rank of sergeant before they ran away to get married at 18. 

Her daughter Tia, on her YouTube channel, Tia Mowry's Quick Fix, described their wedding to be a short gun wedding. 

They were just 21 years old when they had Tia and Tamara in Hawaii.

She gave up her career to support her kids' burgeoning career

Mowry has been a supporting mom. She even gave up her career to support her kids' burgeoning career. 

Tia, in her Tia Mowry's Quick Fix, explained how her mother worked so hard for them. 

"My mom was in the army, and you can't just quit the army. She had to present her case to the courts", she said. 

When they finally let her mother go, they moved to Hollywood. 

They only would let one of their parents out of the army, so her father had to stay in Texas for a while, after which he was again transferred back to Germany for another two years.

Recalling her childhood, she said that her mother would take graveyard shift jobs, and she and her sister Tamara would have to take care of their younger brother in the night while her mom worked the whole night just to make ends meet. 

During the day time, she would devote her time to them to take them for auditions.

She and her husband are no longer together

Back in April 2019, Tamara shared on The Real Daytime that her parents are no longer together. 

"I have never really talked about this on television, but my mom and dad are actually divorced," she said. 

She also said that she loves seeing her mother live her life but feels like if they live together, their roles will be reversed, and she will be the one to ask her mom what she is doing tonight, whom she is dating, and all. 

She said she is so overprotective of her mother, explaining that her parents had been divorced four years prior, but it took her a while to accept that and that her mother is so private about her dating life. 

”She is a Scorpio, and she knows that I am going to be very, very opinionated. I will be hard on her like she was hard on me. So, she can’t just date anybody, she added. 

On the other hand, she said she met her father’s Asian girlfriend, whom she called awesome. 

Proud mother of four 

Mowry is a proud mother of four: twin daughters, Tamara and Tia, and sons, Tahj Mowry and Tavior Mowry, whom she shares with her ex-husband. 

All of her kids went on to be very successful. Besides her daughters, both her sons are in the entertainment industry. 

Tahj is an actor and a singer, while her youngest, Tavior, is a musician and a music producer based in Nashville. 

Tahj appeared alongside her sisters in recurring roles on Full House and Out All Night before starring on the television show Smart Guy. 

He previously dated Smart Guy actress Naya Rivera. Rivera sadly passed away in July 2020.
