Damar Hamlin

Damar Hamlin is an American football safety for Buffalo Bills. 

He was born and raised in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, and attended Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh. 

He attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he played at Division 1. He was drafted by Buffalo Bills in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL draft.

Suffered an on-field cardiac arrest

Hamlin was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after he suffered a cardiac arrest during the Monday Night Football Game on the 2nd of January, 2023. 

He was discharged from the hospital after more than a week at Buffalo General Medical Center. 

He was initially hospitalized in Cincinnati but was transferred to the Buffalo facility after his condition worsened.

He spoke publicly for the very first time since his cardiac arrest

Hamlin spoke for the very first time publicly since his cardiac arrest, where he expressed his gratitude to his fans, his medical team, and the entire NFL team. 

Hamlin started by saying that it was important for him to wait and speak at the right time as it was just to process within his own self mentally, physically, and spiritually. 

He is appreciative of all the love and support he received. He continued to say what happened to him on Monday Night Football. 

He feels like a direct example of God using him as a vessel to share his passion and his love directly from his heart with the entire world. 

He is able to give it back to kids and communities all across the world who need it the most, which has always been his dream, always been what he stood for, and what he will continue to stand for.

Hamlin expressed his gratitude who helped him most directly to get him back to this moment. 

He started with Bill’s training and medical staff and medical personnel of both University of Cincinnati Medical center and Buffalo General Hospital. 

He then expressed his gratitude to his parents, who are his anchors and everything that never left his side the entire time, his brother, his family, and his friends. 

The love and support from everyone, including his fans, helped him to stay encouraged to get through the toughest times and moments, and also he expressed his deep gratitude to all those kids who sent him the letter and gifts which made his day every day and inspired him to keep dreaming.

Who are his parents?

Hamlin’s parents are Mario and Nina. They were just 16 when they gave birth to Hamlin. Together they formed a cleaning business to make ends meet. 

Later, Mario got involved in the drug dealing business, for which he was sentenced to jail for three and a half years. 

Hamlin was quite young at the time. Hamlin is super close to his parents, especially his mother, and credits his success to them. 

In an interview back in 2021, he said it was just him and his parents first, and they instilled in him the meaning of hard work. 

His Instagram post on father’s day read they weathered every storm from hell and got back together as a family. 

They are not ashamed of their story cause it made them who they are. Wishing him a happy father’s day, he further wrote,

”You taught me a lot in life, but something that will stick with me is making sacrifices for the people you love.”

His younger brother is his life

Hamlin has a little brother Damir who was born in 2015. Hamlin says his brother is his life, his everything. 

He says his brother is the reason why he strives to view his best self every day.

Hamlin is currently single. As of now, he is focusing on his career. There is also no rumor of him dating any girlfriend before.
