Cliff Curtis is born in Rotorua, New Zealand. He is a New Zealand Actor. 

He is known best for his roles in movies such as Three Kings, Once Were Warriors, Sunshine, and many others.

Childhood

Cliff Curtis has six siblings. His dad was an amateur dancer. 

He is of Maori Descent; his tribal affiliations are Ngati Hauiti and Te Arawa. His childhood was full of struggle. 

He had to face the loss of his mother in a fatal car accident when he was only three years old. 

His father was an alcohol addict. His father couldn’t handle the grief of his beloved wife died and left heartbroken. 

His dad left cliff Curtis to his siblings to take care of him because he has to earn money to give them food. 

Since all responsibility of eight children had shifted to him because his wife died, it was very tough for him to cope with the situation also to give them a good normal life. 

His father used to hit them to overcome his frustration.

Cliff Curtis, once in an interview, mentioned that his home life as a ‘Once were warriors scene every night.’ 

That was the normal kind of family he grew up with.  

They accepted that part of family life, and it wants a big deal or problem for them. 

Since his dad was unable to take care of all of them, single-handedly, the family split up between extended family. 

Curtis was moved to one of his aunt’s home in the Bay of plenty. He grew up there. 

However, he never said anything wrong to his dad because he understands that his father tried his best to give them a good life, but it was tough on his part.

Marriage And Wife

The actor Cliff Curtis is a very private person; he guards his private life against the media very well. 

He got married in 2009 in a very private ceremony at home where only his closest family was present. 

But as per his uncle Toby Curtis, the guest was about 200 and mostly the main family, the bride traveled from Asia to Rotoiti.

Before getting his first feature film, he worked for several New Zealand theatre companies like Bats Theatre, Downstage Theatre, mercury theatre, and Centre Point. 

His first feature film titled ‘The Piano,’ in which his role was small, but the movie got Oscar Nomination, and it was a huge hit among the viewers. 

But the movie that got him popularity among the audiences is ‘Once were warriors’ and became one of the most victorious films released in New Zealand.

In the year 2004, he tried his hand on production, Curtis founded a production company named Whenua Films single-handedly. 

The main objective of the company was to support the growth of New Zealand film making and also to support local Filmmakers as well. 

Some of the shorts the company has produced are One Night and Two cars. 

One night received an Academy Award nomination in 2005.
