Before that, he was the sportswriter and columnist for The Washington Post for 31 years. He also wrote for the Daily and suburban newspapers. Cleo worked in Chicago public school as a teacher for 35 years.

Married life 

She was married to Raymond Wilbon a long time back. Raymond worked as a route salesman for different companies like Soda, ice-cream, and bread. 

Raymond did not graduate high school, but he valued education. They lived in marital bliss until the death of her husband.

Lost her husband of 27 years

Cleo lost her husband of 27 years to lung cancer who was 60 years old. Mike confronted that he never got to know his dad as a man. 

He was 27 and was away from home for ten years to study and career settlement. After her spouse’s death, her children became her mental and emotional strength.

Mother to two sons

Cleo was a mother to her two sons, Mike the elder, and Donald Wilbon, who is two years younger than Mike

Both grew up and did everything together from arguing, fighting, loving to being the best man for each other’s wedding and godfathers to each other’s sons. 

Mike considers Donald as his best-friend more than his brother. Donald is a banker in Chicago

Her son Mike suffered a heart attack while covering the Super Bowl in 2008. Her family had severe heart issues before, where she lost both her brother and father from a heart attack.

Born before the great depression

Cleo was 65 years old when she got her first surprise birthday party. 

Similarly, she had a surprise birthday party at the age of 70 and 80 in the presence of family members from everywhere. 

After her 80th birthday, she made her two sons promise not to throw surprise parties anymore because of the extreme rush. 

She survived 93 years, having been born before the great depression added by heart diseases and diabetes.  She underwent three by-pass surgery and the loss of sight after the age of 78

The loss of her sight ultimately left her in despair when she could not see her grandsons Matthew and Jordon. She celebrated her 93rd birthday in March 2019 with her family before taking her last breath in July

Mike and his wife together for more than two decades

Mike and his wife Sheryl Wilbon, a former attorney, have been wedded blissfully for more than two decades. Though Mike got married at the age of 43, the couple has a deep love and understanding for each other. 

From their beautiful marriage, they share one son Matthew Raymond born on 26th March 2008 via surrogate.
