Clare Herdman is famous as the beautiful wife of an English-born professional football manager who is currently managing Canada men’s national team.

Herdman was born in Consett, County Durham, England, to his parents, Margaret and Norman Herdman as his second child.
His father worked in the offshore oilfields but battled with mental depression that touched the borderline of Schizophrenia.

His mother, Margaret, was the only daughter of her father, John Martin, who was a one-time professional boxer and union leader at steelworks.

According to him, he had a few of his granddad’s genes who was a hard man, stood for people, had a towering personality, and no one messed with him.
The family expanded with the birth of Martin, John’s younger brother, when John was turning eight, after which the family moved to their own house.
Soon after, his father’s illness rose, and John stepped into his father’s shoes. He became the father figure to his younger brother.
With that, he was building a foundation of his life in teaching and coaching. His parents parted ways when John was at the end of Secondary school.
He tried his hand in the military but got rejected, so he ended up in a local college.
He was suggested to try his hand at teaching as he already had been teaching a boy’s soccer team. It struck his mind.
He went to University where he studied sports science and teaching and soon excelled and was lecturing at the university and at the same time coaching at the youth academy of Sunderland.
In 2001, he was offered a job at Invercargill. Clare suggested taking the offer, and he accepted.
He was hired by New Zealand Football in late 2004, and within two years, he was the head coach for New Zealand women’s national football team.
He coached the women’s team to the World Cup in 2007 and 2011, as well as the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
He then took the Canadian women’s national soccer team in 2011.
Under his management, he led the team to a gold medal finish at the 2011 Pan American Games and guided them through the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament.
In January 2018, Herdman took over the Canada men’s national soccer team.
Her husband became the first manager to lead both the women’s and men’s national teams to qualify for the World Cup.
Since guiding the women’s national team to the FIFA World Cup in 2007 and 2011, Herdman once again succeeded in guiding the men’s national team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the 4-0 victory over Jamaica and became the first manager to successfully lead both the national women’s and men’s national team.
Canada will be playing for the second time in the FIFA World Cup after 36 years. They played for the first time in 1986.
After qualifying for the World Cup, Herdman shared the feeling to be surreal, having received immense love and support from people.
Married to her childhood sweetheart
Clare married her childhood sweetheart John and are the parents of their two beautiful children, Jay Herdman and Lilly Herdman.

Clare has supported her husband’s career from the beginning and has been influential in decision-making.
During an interview back in 2014, John said he is probably the most boring man on the planet- either working, playing football, going to watch his son play football, or talking about football.
He said at the time that he was lucky to be married after 12-odd years and that he won't know how his wife puts up with them.
