Christophe Galtier

Christophe Galtier is a French-born professional football manager who is the current manager of Ligue 1 club Nice. 

He is a retired player. He played as a defender for some clubs like Marseille, Lille, Toulouse, Angers, etc. He has been named thrice the Ligue 1 Manager of the Year so far.

Quit from his managerial post at Lille just two days after the Ligue 1 victory, but why?

Christophe took over the managerial post at his former club Lille in 2017. His four years at the helm of the club guided the club to second place and securing the place in the Champions League after surviving relegation by just one point in the 2017-18 season. 

He further guided the club to lift their first Ligue1 title in a decade and fourth in club history. After successful seasons at Lille, he decided to quit from the post just two days after the Ligue 1 victory.

When asked about the reason behind leaving the club, he said that the decision to be very personal. 

For him, four years periods is quite lengthy for a manager, and also he internally felt that it was the right time to make the decision. 

He also confessed to not taking the decision in fear of Lille’s future and not having made a decision based on financial aspects. 

The main reason behind leaving Lille was a hunger for doing something different without falling into a routine.

Christophe is the grandfather of her seven-year-old granddaughter, who calls her Papi. Because of the place distance, he does not get to see her, but she is the princess of the house. She is the one who can make him do anything.

According to him, he has a passion for golf which he developed when his mate Alain Perrin insisted on him playing golf while they were working together in the Emirates. 

He was immediately into it after he succeeded once, which he later continued while at Saint-Etienne but having realized it was something that needed quite a lot of time which he did not have so he had to stop. 

His second passion is cycling, and he loves to cycle from time to time for an hour or more, discovering different magnificent places. 

He is also passionate about Formula 1. He also mentioned Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton to be his best and would like to spend an hour with him so that he could get the answers to the questions he has in his mind.
