Christine Embiid

Christine Embiid is famous as the mother of NBA star Joel Embiid. 

He has been playing for the Philadelphia 76ers since being drafted with the third overall pick in 2014. 

Christine is of Cameroon native and is a homemaker.

Married to a military officer

Christine is married to her husband, Thomas Embiid, a military officer. Thomas is a former handball player. 

He always made sure his family had food on the table and a good environment. 

Though they were not that rich, they provided their kids with everything they needed. 

The couple is still in their marital bliss, enjoying the success of their son. As parents, they wanted Joel to become a doctor at first and did not care about NBA.

Lost one of her kids in an accident

Christine was the mother of her three kids, two sons, Joel and Arthur, and a daughter Muriel. All of her three kids were raised in Yaounde, Cameroon. 

On October 17, 2014, the family went through the painful tragedy of his younger son Arthur’s death. He met with a violent accident. 

He was just 13 when the truck hit him in Cameroon. According to Joel, Arthur was always his mom's favorite.

The impact of Arthur’s death

A mother’s pain in losing her child cannot be described in words. 

Christine has been dealing with the death of Arthur since the day he died, and it’s very hard for her to digest to date and is still affecting her. 

It was tough for every member of the family. Joel, at one point, thought of quitting basketball because he was hurt by his younger brother’s death. 

He was in America and had been four years not seeing his younger brother. 

In Arthur’s memory, there is the Arthur Embiid & Angels Foundation in Cameroon that provides aid to needy children. 

Joel named his son after tributing his late brother. His son is Arthur Elijah De Paula Embiid.

How Joel ended up becoming an NBA star 

Joel was initially good at volleyball and dreamt of playing in Europe and having been born in Cameroon, where there was less exposure and media coverage of basketball. 

He did not play basketball until his eyes caught Kobe Bryant in the finals against the Celtics, where he got his motivation. 

When Cameroon-born NBA player Luc Mbah a Moute hosted a camp, Joel did not find the guts to attend since he hardly knew basketball rules, but his volleyball coach forced him to register. 

He stood out and was later invited to play Basketball without Borders (BWB). 

His father wanted him to pursue his career in volleyball in Europe, but he later was convinced and gave him his blessing to get enroll in Montverde Academy in Florida. 

His skill improved drastically with consistent practice, and the rest is history.

Joel is in a loving relationship with his model girlfriend 

Joel is in a loving relationship with his girlfriend, model Anne De Paula, whom he met through a mutual friend at New York City dinner in 2018. 

They started their relationship with friendship. They shared a lot of things in common that kept them connected. 

They faced time every day, and their friendship eventually turned into love.
