Chester Harriott

Chester Harriott was a Jamaican pianist and singer known for his eight years as a variety act Harriott and Evans. 

He is also famous as the father of Ainsley Harriott, who is an English chef, television presenter, and entertainer. 

Ainsley Harriott, a versatile celebrity

Ainsley Harriott is a renowned Chef who begins his cooking training at Westminster College, got an apprenticeship at Verrye’s restaurant in London’s West End, and later worked as a commis chef.

Over the years, he worked in various London’s top hotels and restaurants and established himself as an incredible chef. 

Known for his amazing flavors, he was invited in the early 1990s to become a resident chef on BBC TV’s Good Morning with Anne and Nick.

Not limiting himself as a chef, he started to be seen in several cooking shows. 

He gained worldwide fame from his BBC cooking shows: Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook, and Ready Steady Cook. 

The versatile celebrity is also a bestselling author who has published 12 books and has sold two million books worldwide. 

In collaboration with his school friend Paul Boross, he has created Calypso Twins and has released a hit record ‘World Party’ in the 1990s. 

They used to perform at the comedy store, Jongleurs, and TV and Radio shows. 

Married

He was married to Petronia, who is known as Peppy Strudwick, was a nurse by profession. 

The couple got married in May 1953. 

Unfortunately, the relationship did not last long, and the couple separated in 1965. 

At present, both of them are no more in this world. 

Peppy left this world on 29 October 1993 because of pancreatic cancer. 

Chester also suffered from a brain tumor at the end of the 1990s.

 However, he outlived this deadly disease, but later, on 4 July 2013, he died because of a stroke.

Husband used to perform in front of Princess Margaret

Son of doctor and teacher, Chester was a gifted pianist who used to appear in radio shows in his early childhood days. 

Recognizing his talent, his admirers helped him get a scholarship at Trinity College of music, London, at 17.

With the help of Jamaican bassist Arthur Bennett, he got the opportunity to learn modern music and play cocktail Piano at a famous nightclub.

Peppy’s husband even used to perform in front of famous personalities such as Princess Margaret and entertainer Leslie Hutchinson.

Later, when her husband joined Vic Evans, their performance together successfully mesmerized the audience, and as a result, their fame skyrocketed during the 1950s. 

But in 1962, he started performing solo and even opened a restaurant, Truffles, where he used to perform nightly for an enthusiast audience.

The next wife was a magician

After splitting from the first wife, Chester spent his life with his next wife, Claudine, for some years and later separated from her. 

She was a magician who got trained by her father. But in 1971, she retired to enjoy the family life. 

Children

He was blessed with five children altogether. 

From his first relationship with Peppy, he had welcomed three children and two from the second partner, Claudine.

He is blessed with his first child as a daughter, Jacqueline Harriott, in 1952. 

Two years later, the couple welcomed their first son, who they named, Chester Harriott Jr. 

Again, in 1957, his popular chef son, Ainsley, came into this world. 

From togetherness with Claudine, he got a daughter, Donna Harriott, in 1980, who also followed his music career and is a violinist.

But there is no information regarding his fifth child.
