Chase Stokes is an American-born actor best recognized for his role as John Booker Routledge (John B) in the Netflix drama series Outer Banks.

Stokes on dealing with parent's divorce

Stokes was born to his parents, Jeff Stokes, a business executive, and Jennifer Canning, who are no longer together now. 

They got divorced when Stokes was probably six months to a year old. Both of his parents have moved on with their respective lives remarrying. 

Stokes opened up with Pop Sugar in 2021 about how dealing with his parent's divorce affected him, creating awareness of mental health. 

Stokes had to deal with his parent's divorce not once but twice. 

The first divorce happened when he was just a few months old, and the second divorce happened when he was in his teen. The latter hit him hard. 

He recalled having panic attacks several times, acting irrationally, and lashing out. 

Still, then he was not fully aware of what he was going through, and he now realizes that it was some level of serious anxiety. 

It was not until a few years back he started having therapy. According to him, he doesn't think he has ever fully accepted the grief of divorce. 

He had to disconnect from the world of masculinity, discover his emotional vulnerability and learn to be not just vulnerable with himself. 

His conversation with his father and stepfather helped him process the grief though it was hard and emotional. 

He knew in order to get over that hump, he needed to be selfish and open about his concerns and his experiences. 

It began with having a conversation with his stepfather, where he shared what he had been struggling with, and there was a lot of empathy from him, he said. 

During the conversation with his biological father, he didn't hold anything back. 

His reaction was that he didn't truly realize how much anger and frustration he had held for 27 years. 

They have been opening up with one another about what their path looked like.

How many siblings does he have?

Stokes has altogether six half-siblings. 

He has two younger siblings, brother Kaden Stokes and a sister Kendall Nicole from his father's second marriage to Nikki Osterman. 

He has four other siblings, Riley Walker, Griffin Walker, Ethan Canning, and Evan Walker, from her mother's second marriage to Scott Walker.

Stokes had to take a break from social media after his post with sister Riley led up the controversy as the fans mistook her for his new girlfriend. 

He received several death threats, which he shared on his post, calling them toxic fans.

He was dating Outer Banks co-star

Stokes was in a relationship with Outer Banks co-star Madelyn Cline. 

In June 2020, they announced that they were dating, but unfortunately, they split up in November 2021.

Rumors of their split swirled up after they were not seen together at Met Gala, followed by TMZ publishing a video of Cline and K.C. Undercover star Ross Butler dancing together in a restaurant Cera in Milan though he later claimed they were just friends.

During an interview with Cosmopolitan, Cline opened up about what it's like working with Stokes after the break-up when asked if it's awkward. 

She said that they always said to each other that the job remains untouched, whatever may be the circumstances, positive or negative, also noting it's not always been easy. 

Their job is to leave the show better than they found it and to leave the season better than they found it, and she is appreciative of that, she added. 

She further added to say that she does not owe anyone any explanation. She is a very private person, and there is part of her that is for her and nobody else. 

But in hindsight, making her relationship only made it everyone else's business. 

After the breakup, she needed them to move on and be happy, but people see the need for the sides, which there aren't, as there is no winning or losing in a break-up.
