How did she get into acting?
Charnele fell in love with acting at quite an early age. She was in second grade and was watching the American television series Lassie.
Since Lassie usually came back at the end of two or three minutes, if he came back a little later that day, she started crying, thinking that Lassie was dead.
She then realized she could make herself cry by looking at something though she didn't know the technique back then.
While at school, she used to go to the duck pond every Friday.
She started crying at the pond, remembering Lassie, and when the teachers and her friends asked her why she was crying, she said her brother died in the pond, but in reality, she had no brothers.
She was so convincing that everyone believed in her and started giving her candies to make her feel good.
Charnele recalled getting the thrashing of her life when she returned home because her teacher Mrs. White had told her mom what happened and also had apologized for taking her to the pond.
But her parents saw something in her and put her in the acting class.
She became a pro after college with a Broadway debut "Safarina," a South-African musical in 1989. She was the first American cast member.
Though she struggled during her early career, she didn't consider it a struggle because it was something she had to do and she loved to do.
It was hard, but she enjoyed her journey.

According to Charnele, the kids of today's generation have access to almost everything and have resources, so she tells her students that there is no way they could be dumped because they have tons and tons of opportunities, and therefore there is no middleman like before.
Back then, when she was doing it, there was always a middleman, she said.
The reason why she stopped acting
Charnele, during an interview with A Star TV, revealed the reason why she stopped acting.
According to her, she had to take care of her mom because her mom had Alzheimer’s disease.
It was not like she was not getting gigs or going out and auditioning, but she had to stop what she was doing because her mother was her first priority.
So in the midst of taking care of her, she had her acting school, which provided an opportunity to be in the craft as well and be as close as possible while still taking care of her mother.
