Cathy Mercer is the late mother of famous American former professional basketball player Lamar Odom

Lamar Joseph Odom is a member of the Lakers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). 

He won the NBA championship in both 2009 and 2010. In 2011, he was also named NBA Sixth Man of the Year

Cathy was married to her husband, Joe Odom. They are the parents of the famous NBA star Lamar Odom.

Lamar lost his mother, Cathy Mercer, due to colon cancer. He was only twelve years old when she passed away. 

His dad Joe Odom was an addict who didn't even care for him since his childhood. His father was a h*roin addict. 

Lamar grew up with his grandmother named Mildred since there was nobody to raise him, his grandmother was there for him. 

Before his grandmother, Cathy used to raise him as a single parent. Cathy and Lamar were very close.

On November 6, 1979, Lamar was born in South Jamaica, New York City, USA

After his mom's death, he lived with his maternal grandmother named Mildred Mercer, where Lamar used to do household while growing up.  

Lamar used to have very poor grades in his studies, due to which he was transferred from one school to another. 

He studied at "Redemption Christian Academy," located in Troy, and "Christ The King Regional High School," located in Queens, and then he transferred to St. Thomas Aquinas High School in New Britain. 

He was trained basketball by his coach named Jerry DeGregorio when he was a teen. 

He used to play with his now teammates Elton Brand, Kobe Bryant, and Ron Artest at that time. 

He was trying hard to prepare himself for the NBA draft game, but at that time, he thought it's too far from him. 

He then joined the University of Nevada, which is located in Las Vegas. 

He got out of the University in July 1997. At that time, he had many controversies, like he had charges of Soliciting prostitutes

Later, he joined the University of Rhode Island but didn't play any game for two semesters. 

Later he joined the A-10 tournament, where he averaged 17.6 points per game.

The career of Lamar:

He was chosen for the 1999 NBA Draft by Los Angeles Clippers as their fourth pick. 

He had really good coordination with his team, but he was suspended a couple of times for abusing d*ugs. 

Later he was playing for the Miami Heat while moving forward his career. 

He used to average 13.1 points per game with 9.7 points on rebounds

He was later traded to Los Angeles Lakers for Shaquille O'Neal at the end of the season. 

He had also taken part in Summer Olympics 2004, where he represented his country, and he also took part in FIBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2004 and won bronze and gold medals. 

He was featured in Parade magazine as he was named Player of the Year in 1997 to his gameplay for St. Thomas Aquinas High School

In 2000, he was also a member of the NBA All-Rookie first team

He was rewarded with the NBA Sixth Man of the year award for 2010-11 seasons.
