Caroline Bright

Caroline Bright is a proud mother of the famous actor, Will Smith. She graduated from Carnegie Mellon University and was a Philadelphia school board administrator. 

She is the mother of four children, including Will. Her eldest daughter Pam has stayed out of the spotlight and owns a little boutique in her hometown Philly. 

She had twins Ellen and Harry after Will. Ellen also stays out of the spotlight like her sister while Harry is in the entertainment industry. 

Caroline makes appearances on television sometimes in regard to her son's life. 

Marriage life

She was married to Willard Carroll Smith Sr., a US Air Force Veteran and a refrigeration engineer. 

They welcomed four wonderful children whom they raised together. Their marriage came to an end in 2000 when they divorced. 

Willard died in November of 2016. Will described his father as a positive and steady figure who was tough but not tyrannical while mourning his death.

Her son tied the knot with Jada Pinkett in November 1997. They first met during the audition for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and started dating in 1995. 

They had a private wedding ceremony at a hotel in Baltimore. They kept their special day away from the media in her hometown. 

In their twenty-four years of marriage, they got winded up in controversies relating to remarks she made about Will being an independent man and how he can do whatever he likes, which the media interpreted as them being in an open marriage. 

Pinkett later denied such comments about their strong bond of love and marriage. 

Children

Smith welcomed his first child with Pinkett, a baby boy named Jaden Smith, in 1998. 

She was already three months pregnant when she was getting married to Smith. In October 2000, they gave birth to Willow Smith, their second son. 

Oscar controversy 

At the 94th Annual Academy Awards which was held on March 27, 2022, Will slapped comedian Chris Rock over his remark on Jade's bald hair as a sign of entertainment. 

Jade is diagnosed with Alopecia, a medical condition that causes hair loss. 

This brought a lot of heat on the Hollywood stage and was followed by many comments by Hollywood top-notch celebrities about inappropriate behavior by Will. 

He apologized for his behavior during his Oscar-winning speech and through his social media handle. 

Caroline showed her response to her son's behavior stating she saw such action from him for the first time and that he is even a people person.

In an exclusive interview with Action News, Caroline talked about how proud she is of her superstar son and also talked about Hollywood’s biggest night. 

On the Oscar night, Caroline recalled waking up early to send her son the best wishes and was the first one to send him the text message wishing him good luck on the family special group chat. 

She gushed about her son, saying she knows how hard her son works and that she has been waiting and waiting to see her son lift the Oscar, and the moment she heard his name, she was like, “YESS.” 

To watch Will Smith, all the Smith family, including his sisters Ellen, gathered in their family home in the suburbs of Philadelphia.

Talking about the Oscar night, Caroline was surprised to see her son go off for the first time in her life. 

Otherwise, he is a very even people person, she said. Similarly, Will’s younger sister Ellen also spoke about the incident. 

Ellen said she watched her brother constantly excel under the pressure and spotlight of Hollywood. 

Everyone has been abused in some way, and I understand, and people like, ”oh, I wish was in such and such shoes. 

She added that those are my goals and everything, but you don’t know what it takes to get there.

She also said that she has had the conversation with her brother, which sort of broke her heart listening to the things that he said he went through to get to where he is today. 

The Smith family is proud of Will for who he has become. Caroline says she is proud of her son being him.

Will Smith recalls watching his father abuse his mother

Will recalls watching his father abuse his mother while growing up in his YouTube series Best Shape of my Life. 

Will said his father was both the greatest blessing and the greatest pain of his life. He had a brutal temper and had a drinking habit, and when drunk, he used to become an idiot. 

His mom is, in many ways opposite of his father. His father was boisterous, charismatic, and a center of attraction, while his mom carried a quiet, reserved elegance. 

She loved words and always chose her words carefully, she added. 

He recalled the night he was standing in the doorway watching his father punch his mom. The punch was so hard that his mom spat up blood. 

He said that particular moment in his life has defined who he is today.
