Burton Eugene Lane

Burton Eugene Lane was the father of Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe-nominated American actress, Diane Lane. 

Burton, a drama coach, used to operate an acting workshop with John Cassavetes. He started working as a cab driver when Diane was seven. 

Later, he ended up teaching humanities at City College. Burton was a son of Southern Baptists, which made him embrace science rejecting religion. 

He took his last breath in February 2002.

He was married to model and nightclub singer

Burton was married to model and nightclub singer Colleen Leigh Farrington. However, their marriage could not last long and ended in divorce in 1965. 

Diane was just 13 days old at the time. He had a contentious relationship with his ex-wife even after a divorce, including his ex-wife’s dramatic effort to get their daughter back. 

She kidnapped Diane and drove her from New York to Georgia. When Diane was six years old, he got primary custody. 

Diane went on to live an independent life when she was fifteen. His ex-wife married her second husband, Lawrence Price. 

She passed away at the age of 79 in October 2015.

To her surprise, she, for the first time, got to hear them discussing their honeymoon, where they were reminiscing the romantic moment of their lives. 

From the tape, Diane got to realize that no love is ever wasted.

His vision for his daughter

He had a vision for his daughter, which Diane discussed in an interview with Andy Cohen. 

According to Diane, she did not understand her father’s vision for her as an actor at the time. 

She even disagreed and resented sometimes. She felt like she was living his dream, but at the same time, she kept falling uphill.

His grand-daughter found a 6F99 cab, the cab he used to drive

His daughter Diane had a very warm memory with the 6F99 cab, the cab he used to drive while working as a cab driver back in Diane’s childhood days. 

It connected Diane back to her childhood memories with him when he used to drive her around New York City. 

Diane confessed to looking at a 6F99 cab the minute she landed in New York City. 

She had already given up looking for her father’s yellow cab, but her long wait was over after a decade when her daughter, Eleanor Jasmine Lambert, got into a 6F99 cab. 

She said she has a picture of her daughter getting into a cab to keep her memory alive.
