He said it wasn’t too much to call around 10 to 20 people to see that they have worked with the coach in the past and see if that all checks out.
There were some guys they didn’t know about, but they got them by good word of mouth, after which they went through the same interview and the vetting process.
To be on his coaching staff, he needs to know if they know how to teach the fundamentals.
He saw that they could help in the game plan process when they go through a week and help get their guys in the right positions.
The other thing that is important to him is that their core values coincided with his core values.
He wanted to know how they connected with the guys and how they coach competitiveness, fundamentals, and football IQ.
