Brandy Cole

Brandy Cole is the beautiful mother of an American professional basketball player Jayson Tatum who plays for the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association(NBA). 

Brandy was raised by a single mother outside St. Louis. She played Volleyball while in high school and was offered an athletic scholarship at Tennessee. 

She dreamt of going to MIT to study biomedical engineering, but her life took a different direction after she found out about her pregnancy. 

She gave up Volleyball and her dream to study biomedical engineering and enrolled herself in law. She graduated from Saint Louis University and is currently a practicing attorney.

Became parents at an early age

Brandy Cole and Justin Tatum became the parents of their son Jayson when they were just 19 years old undergraduates. 

Jayson’s father, Justin, graduated a year before Jayson’s birth. Brandy did not give up her studies and continued her studies. 

By the time Jayson was in his sixth grade, she had already finished her bachelor’s and law degrees. 

The first person to hand Jayson with basketball was his father

Justin played basketball while at Saint Louis University and later became a basketball coach at Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis. 

According to Jayson, his father was the first to hand him a basketball and teach him how to play. 

He is the biggest reason why Jason is a basketball player. From Jayson’s fourth grade to tenth grade, Justin was the coach and athletic director at Soldan International Studies High School. 

Jayson spent four or five days a week practicing with him. Though he was tough towards his son for a basketball and made him cry every day, he was the first person to foresee his potential. 

The same toughness helped his son become the tough man on and off the court and the player he is today.

Jayson is the only son

Jayson is the only son of Brandy. But Jason has two more paternal half-siblings, Jaycob and Kayden. 

They share a strong bond, and even Brandy has a good relationship with them. Like his parents, Jayson became the father at the age of 19. 

His son Jayson Tatum Jr. widely recognized as Deuce was born on December 6, 2017.

She is the superwoman 

From the day Jayson was born, Brandy tried to be the best version of herself for her son. 

She raised him going through hard times as Jayson mostly played basketball overseas. 

She used to take her son with her to the classes when her mother was out for work since she could not afford a babysitter. 

There was a time when electricity and water used to get cut off because of the inability to pay bills on time. 

Keeping all her struggles aside, she did not let Jayson suffer. As an avid supporter, she had never missed a game until her son got to NBA because she knew how important basketball was for him. 

She did every possible thing she could do to support and give him the right direction.

She is happily married to her now-husband

Brandy got married to her now-husband Jake in August 2016 in Freeport, Bahamas. 

Jayson shared the news via Instagram and expressed his happiness. He also expressed his gratitude for making his mother happy.

Brandy Cole’s son talks about Finance

When asked if her son had learned anything financially from his mom, he said they didn’t necessarily have the money to talk about having a savings account. 

However, as Jayson started getting older and began understanding that the NBA was coming to reality, Brandy started talking to him about the importance of balancing. 

As of the current scenario, his mother sees access like overseeing his financial advisor, accountant agent, and business manager, and his biggest thing was to save all his NBA money. 

So the money he does get from the Celtics is transferred into the savings account, eventually invested in it and grows over time and lives solely on what he earned on the court and from the endorsements.

Jayson recalls his mom’s obstacles

Jayson would sleep in the same bed where his mom slept back in his old days. Brandy didn’t have any furniture in her personal space for a specific time being. 

Despite all this, Brandy didn’t let those obstacles affect her son. Later, Brandy moved out of her mom’s home when Jayson was just six months old. 

The main reason was to have a life just for the two of them. She then bought space with two tiny bedrooms in 900 square foot house in St. Louis' diverse University City. 

It had a postage stamp backyard, including a chain-link fence around their space, but most importantly, they had a roof over their head. 

One day, when Cole reached home, little Jayson captured a pink piece of paper put in their front door. It was all about a notice of foreclosure. 

Just after that, Brandy began crying. However, young little Jayson didn’t know what to do, and he felt helpless. 

He remembers he wanted to help her so bad but was just 11 years old. She went inside her home and felt like she had failed her son. 

For hours, both mom and sons swam in their sorrows. Jayson claimed it as their low point of life and remembered it very well.

The net worth of Brandy is not disclosed. From the very early days, Jayson made up his mind to become an NBA player. 

It was his plan A, and he stuck in plan A without having plan B. On the way to fulfilling his dream, he sacrificed a lot of things giving up a normal childhood.
