The sacrifices Bibiano and his wife made for their kids
Bibiano and his wife, Silvia Ribeiro, struggled to make ends meet in their early days.
But they did everything they could to provide food on the table for their two sons.
Though Darwin is the most expensive signing today, there was a time when he used to go to bed on an empty stomach.
Darwin says he never forgets the roots where he has come from, a humble, hardworking family.
According to him, his father worked eight or nine hours in construction to buy them what they needed and to eat.
Sometimes his dad didn’t have shoes, but he tried to get him cleats so he could play.
While his mom used to go out on the streets to collect bottles to sell, and his mom was the one who mostly went to bed with an empty stomach ensuring he and his brother ate first.
She would go to bed without joining them to eat.
It was in school that he learned about sharing. He used to go to school without a lunch box, so his friends used to share with him.
He would spend all day there when he didn’t have anything to eat. Bibiano is grateful for everything they did for him and his brother.
He always used to say he would give money to his mother after becoming a professional soccer player, and as he said, he bought them six hectares of land and a house in Artigas after he joined Almeria.
His older son gave up his dream for his younger son.
Not only his younger son Darwin but his older son Junior Nunez also dreamt of becoming a professional footballer.
When Darwin returned to his hometown after suffering from homesickness and joined Penarol a year later, Junior was already in Penarol.
Darwin’s ligament injury at the age of 17 made him stay away from football for over a year.
At the time of his injury, Junior gave up his dream of becoming of professional to financially support his family to make end meets.
Darwin, in an interview, recalled his brother calling him and asking him to stay as he was going to Artigas with the idea of quitting football.
His brother told him he should not leave football because he has a better future in it.
Darwin said his brother abandoned his career for him because of the sad things that happened in life.
