Her first marriage was a failure

Harris was married to her husband for nine years. 

Together, they welcomed two kids, son Chris and daughter Dorothy, who are 13 months apart from one another. 

During a podcast, Harris said that her husband one day came out of the blue and said don't want to be married anymore. 

So they got divorced when Chris was six and Dorothy was five years old.

She was one paycheck away from homelessness all the time

Following her divorce from her husband, she became a single mother and had to navigate what came under her shoulders. 

She said she would have asked her parents for help, but she didn't let her parents know because she was proud. 

She had a college degree and worked as an administrative assistant for an architect. She earned $12,480 a year. 

She was sewing and typing papers at night after the kids fell asleep so that she could earn an extra amount.

During an interview with The Tennessean, she revealed that she was one paycheck away from homelessness all the time. 

She recalled the time when she thought every morsel of food in the house was spoken for. 

One night, after having dinner, her kids were still hungry, but despite having food, she didn't give them because if she gave it to them, they would miss a meal the next day. 

When she rummaged through the cabinet, she could only find half a bag of stale marshmallows, which they roasted over a candle on toothpicks. 

At the time, her kids thought it was the coolest thing ever, and Chris still talks about it, she said.

She remarried

Harris later started dating Michael Harris. Chris was nine years old when she started dating. 

Harris said the first time they met their stepdad, they legally adopted him as their father. 

They gave him an adoption paper on Father's Day when they were 30 and 31. They said they were adopting him.

Similarly, Chris, in an interview, said he is lucky to have him as his stepdad, whom he refers to as his dad. 

According to him, he has always treated him like his son from the time he came into his mother's and his and his sister's life.

On the occasion of Christmas Day back in 2021, Chris shared on his Instagram that he had gifted his father a new truck. 

He posted a sweet clip where he is seen surprising him with a silver Chevrolet. The father-son duo shares a sweet hug after the surprise. 

He wrote alongside the video,

"My dad has been driving the same truck for well over a decade. I decided he needed a new one this year. I love you, Dad."

1. Chris inherited singing talent from his paternal grandfather. According to Harris, her father was self-taught. He played by ear. She said he is in his 90s and still can play piano and guitar.
2. Chris started talking when he was just four months old. The doctor didn't believe it, and when they visited the doctor, and the doctor asked what his cat's name was, he could not say P but said atches. He could read when he was four months old.
3. The first thing he ever learned to play on guitar was Marty Robbins.
4. When he was in Kindergarten, they discovered that Chris had ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), which would stunt growth. When he was in fourth grade, they were told Chris hadn't grown at all in two years. They put him in all kinds of extracurricular activities to wear off some of the energy. He later grew so fast after not growing.
5. He used to break dance in Second Avenue. He made as many tips in the break dance as he did in one year during CMA Fest singing. During the daytime, he would play in the bars. He would play for tips, and then he would go home, change his clothes, and go back and break dance at night, and people wouldn't realize. He was 16 years old at the time.
6. The first thing he ever did to make money was a commercial. He was in a Toyota commercial with his stepfather when he was just ten years old. He was paid $50 at that time.
