Aurelien Tchouameni

Aurelien Tchouameni is a French-born professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Real Madrid and the France national team. 

Tchouameni has previously played for Bordeaux and Monaco. 

He was born to Cameroonian parents and was eligible to play for both Cameroon and France, but he chose his birth country.

The conversation with his father

Tchouameni is the biggest signing of the summer with Real Madrid, and he has paved his way to becoming what he is today through hard work and consistency. 

But above all, the conversation with his father led him to focus extra and instilled in him the hunger to achieve greatness. 

During an interview, his father, Ferdinand, an aspiring player turned medical professor recalled the conversation he had with his son. 

According to him, he told his son that he wanted to talk to him face to face and that he should give him two hours. 

During the conversation, he said to him that he hadn’t recognized him recently and that he had become an ordinary footballer. 

“At the end of the conversation, he responded, “Father, you’ll see,” Ferdinand added. The rest is history.

He keeps a notebook with him

Tchouameni keeps a notebook with him to jot down ideas and quotes from top athletes or great personalities in the world. 

He writes quotes that are inspiring to him with which he can feed himself. 

Not only that, but he also writes down the goals for each match depending on the opponent or the context. 

He says he tries to be as diligent as possible as he knows each match has its own specifics, whether with the club or the country.

Mental and psychological aspects are important to him 

Mental and psychological aspects are areas that are pivotal to him, and he has become aware of these aspects gradually since making his professional debut. 

He has been working with his psychological trainer, Cedric, with whom he discusses the objectives of the game, everything that happens around it, and the management of one’s emotions.

During an interview with CNN, he said that when he was young, his parents told him he could do anything he wanted, but in the end, he had to be the best. They said,

“If you want to work in the company, you have to be the director of the company; if you want to be the chef, you have to work in the best restaurants,” 

He has been working with the same mentality, and that mentality has helped him become the person he is today.

Victim of racial abuse and death threats

Racial abuse is not a new thing in football. Many players have been victims of racial abuse, and among the players is Tchouameni. 

Last year when he was celebrating his goal on the field of Sparta Prague, monkey cries were thrown at him, which became intense after they celebrated their victory with AS Monaco. 

After the incident, Tchoumeni penned a heartfelt message via his social media account speaking on the matter. 

He wrote he received hateful messages, including death threats but won’t let hate win the game. 

He also urged for a change and wrote what happened must not go unpunished and questioned the UEFA protocol that referee applied, stating why they could stop the match for five minutes to check if the player was offside but couldn’t do the same for the racist chants in a stadium and why aren’t they (players) who are racially abused, associated with the creation of the protocol?

He is currently in a relationship with his girlfriend named, Ornella, who is also a native of France.

Tchoumeni signed with Real Madrid in 2022 for a reported transfer fee of €80 million, with the possibility of rising to €100 million due to additional fees.
