Anna Marie Tendler

Anna Marie Tendler is an American makeup artist, author, and hairstylist best recognized as an ex-spouse of popular stand-up comedian and former Saturday Night Live (SNL) writer John Mulaney. Anna is a Jewish. 

She attended Vidal Sassoon Academy in Los Angeles, where she learned hair cutting and then returned to New York and started college to study photography but eventually dropped out and later got her certificate in makeup, after which she began working. 

Anna graduated from The New School with a bachelor's degree in writing and Psychology and an MA degree in Costume Studies from NYU Steinhardt. Besides that, she is the owner of Silk Parlor.

Her career journey

Anna confessed her career journey to be not that easy one. According to her, there were plenty of times when she had to take up makeup jobs that she did not feel like taking but had to just because she had to make money. 

To find her niche in the beauty market, she started with a Tumblr blog and soon was able to amass 350,000 followers from Tumblr photo tutorials. 

Not only did she reach out to niche, but she also gained immense popularity. 

Her work provided her an opportunity to partner with Amy Poehler's Smart Girls to create a YouTube series, The Other Side, the series that combined beauty with the paranormal. 

In 2016, she got an opportunity to work with her husband Mulaney, who was to star in the Broadway show, Oh, Hello and was looking for a makeup artist and ended up doing 140 shows on Broadways. 

She continued writing books in between her work. Then, she started learning the craft after she failed attempt to buy Victorian lampshades, which soon turned into her business. 

She started an online business Silk Parlor where she sells handmade lampshades and embroidered necklaces.

She predicted getting married to Mulaney amid their dating

Anna and Mulaney first crossed paths during a Massachusetts getaway. 

Though they were not dating at the time, Anna got a vibe that they were soon going to be together after their group trip to Martha's Vineyard, where Mulaney rode shotgun and Anna drove a carload of people later. 

Anna predicted John was the man she was going to marry and she wrote the date along with her signature on it. The date was the 16th of February, 2010. 

The prediction later turned out to be true, with the couple exchanging their wedding vows on the 5th of July, 2014.

The wedding was romantically set up at the top of Catskill Mountains in Boiceville, New York, with a perfect set of 1920's inspired, woodland-deco bash. 

According to Anna, they wanted to get married in nature amidst a peaceful environment surrounded by mountains and trees instead of concrete and skyscrapers. 

The couple chose the Onteora Mountain House as their venue and their comedian friend Dan Levy to officiate their wedding. 

As for their wedding gift, they asked their wedding guests to donate to the Innocence Project.

She was heartbroken by her husband's decision of divorcing her

Their beautiful marriage of nearly seven years fell apart, eventually leading to divorce, and the announcement of them splitting came as shocking news for everyone. 

Her statement in May 2021 read that she was heartbroken by her husband's decision to end their marriage.

The spokesperson of Mulaney confirmed the news stating that Mulaney will not be adding any further comment as he will be continuing to focus on his recovery and getting back to work. 

Mulaney's decision to divorce her came just after he came out of rehab. Soon after the news of their divorce, Mulaney started the new chapter in his life dating actress Olivia Munn. 

In his interview with Seth Meyers, he revealed going to rehab in September and coming out from rehab in October. 

He then moved out from his home from his ex-wife and eventually met Olivia Munn in Los Angeles in Spring and started dating. 

He further revealed that they were expecting their first child. 

After their four months of dating, the news of the pregnancy led everyone to speculate that the couple had been dating before their official announcement. 

Similarly, in an interview, Munn also revealed that she met Mulaney and his wife years before at Seth Meyers' wedding and admitted several attempts to initiate talking to Mulaney. 

She said she even tried emailing him, to which Mulaney never responded.

During his stage shows, he revealed her celebrity crushes to be Timothee Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio and reminisced his memory with her where he recalled how he took her seriously when she described Timothee Chalamet to be 6'1, and he internalized it. 

The next day when he looked up online and discovered he was 5'11, he went to her office and said to Anna, to which she responded that she was kidding. 

Similarly, she often introduced herself, saying she had three things she loved in the world, and that was makeup, the paranormal, and Leonardo DiCaprio, and four to be her spouse if he was to be counted. 

When he was receiving an Emmy award in 2018, he thanked his wife and added that his busy wife said to him that she was not flying across the country to see him loose.

They did not intend on having children

The couple did not try for kids during their six years of the marital relationship and hence do not share any kids. 

In 2019, talking to Entertainment weekly, Mulaney confessed that he loved spending time with his wife, which was the reason for him for wanting kids. 

But Anna is the mom to her French bulldog Petunia. Anna even wore a silver ring with Petunia's name during an interview. 

According to the sources, Petunia has a separate bedroom in their West Village apartment. 

Mulaney, who previously said he did not intend on having kids, is now a father of one whom he shares with his new partner Olivia Munn.

After her split from her ex-spouse Mulaney, she connected herself with art and got to realize many things during the process. 

In September 2021, she exhibited her artwork at The Other Art Fair with her debut photo series "Rooms in the First House," and the theme of her series was the loss, isolation, and the way the specific can feel universal during the troubled times which later turned to be a massive success. 

She also shared how universal she felt sharing her artwork. 

Further, she added saying that we aren't alone as we think we are to deal with the grief and experience the loss as lots of people have experienced feeling isolated and powerless, having lost things in the past year and a half. 

She wore her wedding dress in her debut and shared her photo on her Instagram stories letting her fan know that the wedding dress was her mom's from 1978.
