She is the adopted daughter of John Denver and his first ex-wife

Anna Kate is the adopted daughter of John Denver and his first ex-wife Annie Martell whom he married in 1967. 

She also has an adopted elder brother Zachary John Denver. She was adopted three years after her brother. 

Their parents adopted them after they were unable to conceive a biological child. 

Martell, in an interview with People, said she feels an incredible bond with the women who gave birth to Anna and Zachary, while Denver added how did they ever live without those little children? 

They were always meant to be together.

Zachary John and Anna Kate grew up together in Aspen, Colorado. Though they were adopted, their parents showered them an immense love. 

During an interview, Denver said it would be enough for him to be remembered as a father of Zachary John and Anna Kate when he dies.

The reason behind her parents' divorce

John Denver and Annie Martell married at an early age. Denver was 23, and Martell was just 21 when they married in 1967. 

They first met in 1966 during a Spring concert in Minnesota. 

Martell, during an interview, said she doesn't remember if she was smitten, but she was curious and loved the music they played and loved John's voice. 

He was very different than anybody she had ever been around growing up in South Western Minnesota.

They briefly settled briefly in Chicago before moving to Minneapolis, where Martell started working in a department store, and Denver continued to tour. 

As he was rising high in his career, his marriage was falling apart. 

The stress of long-distance separation while he was on tour slowly turned into insecurity for Martell. 

While Denver said that he just couldn't make love to twenty thousand people and go home alone. 

He was a very shy boy growing up and hardly dated anyone, so when there were girls everywhere, it became hard to say no to them, he added. 

His inability to face and work out the problems in their marriage and the guilt he had around it also affected their marriage, he said.

They separated in 1974, and Denver moved out from Aspen's home but reconciled a few months later. 

It was after they reconciled Denver was inspired to write the most successful and romantic song of his career, "Annie's Song." 

Denver said he spent most of his childhood not having his father around and did the same to Zachary and Anna Kate.

Denver and Martell divorced in 1982, and the reason Denver said that was his career demands. 

He said his career demands drove them apart, while Martell said they were too young and immature to deal with Denver's success. 

She is happily married

Anna Kate is happily married to her husband Jaime Hutter of Wanaka, New Zealand. Hutter is a private equity investor and Investment Banker. 

The couple was residing in the United States before they eventually decided to move to Wanaka. 

In 2016, her husband set the world record for a 24-hour indoor row.

The couple is the proud parents of a beautiful daughter Daisy Eloise whom they welcomed on December 21st, 2011. 

How did her father die?

Her father sadly passed away on the 12th of October, 1997. 

It was a fine Sunday morning, and Denver, an avid golf lover, had gone to play golf with friends, but as he was eagerly waiting to fly his newly acquired homebuilt aircraft, a Rutan Long-EZ, N555JD, he headed towards Monterey Peninsula Airport after playing a round of golf. 

He had mentioned before that he was having a hard time relocating the fuel selector to its originally designed location. 

He had said he would set the autopilot before reaching back to the switch tanks. 

He was cleared to takeoff at 5:12 pm and performed three Touch and Go Landings without incident. 

At 5:28 pm (pacific time), the Long-EZ suddenly dropped out of the sky and crashed into the pacific ocean just outside the Pacific Groove, California.

The crash was so dreadful that it resulted in multiple blunt force trauma claiming his life.
