Anna Beth Goodman

Anna Beth Goodman is a businesswoman mainly recognized as the wife of Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Award-winning actor John Goodman. 

Anna was born Annabeth Hartzog and is originally from Bogalusa, Louisana. She studied fine arts at the University of New Orleans.

She met Goodman at a Halloween party

Anna first met Goodman at a Halloween party at Tipitina's in 1987. 

Goodman, at the time, was filming the 1988 sports drama film "Everybody's All-American" in New Orleans. 

Goodman, while appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers, jokingly said Anna, at the time, thought him to be a zombie and confessed to stalking her. 

He said he asked his friend to keep track of her. "I kind of stalked her real long-distance," he said. The couple started dating a year later.

Goodman proposed to her on the banks of the Mississippi River before walking down the aisle in 1989. They have been inseparable since then.

They share a daughter 

John and Anna became parents for the first time, welcoming their only daughter, Molly Evangeline, in August 1990. 

As parents, they managed to keep their daughter out of the spotlight. 

John and Anna were residing in California at the time the primetime sitcom Roseanne took off, and John didn't want their daughter to grow up in that environment because he had it with show business, publicity, and tabloid stuff. 

He wanted her to get away from that, so they shifted to New Orleans. 

John said he loved New Orleans for two reasons, the climate and the culture, and that they would be closer to Anna's family since they are from Louisana.

Her daughter is a television production assistant

Molly is working as a television production assistant, and her father is happy that she did not choose to follow in his footsteps. 

In an interview with the Guardian, John recalled the moment when he took his then-six-year-old Molly to see a production of Henry IV in San Diego. 

He said she showed no interest in acting and was curious to know who the director was and what was going on backstage. 

He was relieved that she never wanted to follow in his footsteps because he knows how hard it can be, he added.

As a supportive wife, she stood by her husband like a rock when he struggled with alcoholism

John has been outspoken about his struggle with alcoholism. On appearing on Hoda Show, he talked about his troubled past and his past struggle with drugs. 

According to him, growing up, he always felt like an outsider while at school and tried hard to get acceptance by telling jokes to big, hard guys so they would keep people from beating him up.

The only thing he ever wanted to do was to make a living as an actor, so when he was 23, he moved to New York to fulfill his dream. 

During his initial years, he was barely making ends meet. 

He would wake up at 5 in the morning to go down and put his name on the list of Union actors, thinking they might see him after all the Union actors were finished.

A couple of years later, he luckily started getting commercial work, and that provided him the resources to sit on a bar stool for most of the day, he said. 

Even after getting married, he continued drinking, which, according to him, wasn't funny, but he couldn't help himself from not drinking. 

The drinking habit was so bad that there were many times he could have gone under, he told the Guardian. 

All those times, Anna stood by him as a rock, not leaving him. He crashed and burned and asked for help and got help. John has been sober since 2007.
