Andre Gray is a professional football player who plays for Premier League club Watford as well as the Jamaica national team as a striker.
Gray was born in Wolverhampton, England, and is of Jamaican descent.
It was far from overnight success from a non-league to the premier league
Andre Gray started his career with his hometown academy Wolverhampton Wanderers.
After having been released at the age of 13, he joined the youth system at League Two Club Shrewsbury Town, where he spent his six years with the club and made his professional debut.
Andre spent two years playing for Conference North Club Hinckley United before moving to Luton Town on the 22nd of March, 2012.
His two-season spell at Luton helped him to rise high, where he scored 57 goals in 111 appearances.
After Luton, he moved to Championship club Brentford where he won the Championship player of the month award after having scored five goals in four of five successive wins.
Before moving to Premier League Club Watford with a five-year contract on the 9th of August, 2017, he was playing for Championship club, Burnley.
During his time at Burnley, he was awarded Championship player of the year and Golden boot.
He was banned for four games along with a fine of £25,000 for his homophobic tweets he tweeted in 2012 came to light. He later apologized for his doings.
Raised by a single mom
Andre was raised in Wolverhampton by his single mom Joanna whom he considers his best friend.
While growing up, his mother was unaware of his involvement in the gang and carrying a knife at home, and he was a loving person while at home, and while away he was a completely different person.
According to him, his mother did not know half of the things that happened as for parents they don’t know what happens when they are away from home.
In December 2011, his face was slashed by a knife so deeply that the scars still exist on his face.
The incident happened after discussing things that escalated between his group and the group from the outer area. He was in Wolverhampton at the time.
Andre said that the situation could have worsened than what he has got in his face. He got lucky to have escaped from that world.
The incident helped him realize his wrongdoings and credits his mother and loved ones and Luton Town for helping him turn his life around for the better.
His grandfather, his driving force
His grandfather was the one who introduced him to football. He was deeply saddened and heartbroken after the demise of his grandfather.
He was just 13 at the time and was playing for Shrewsbury Town and confessed to losing a bit, as there was no one for him to tell and keep him straight.
Andre further added, saying that his grandfather wanted him to look after his family, which is driving him even more to work harder, making him realize that there is no time for an excuse.
His black history tattoos
Andre tattooed his whole back as a tribute to his heroes. It took him six months to get the full tattoo done.
He did research before tattooing his body because, as a school kid, he was never taught about black history.
When he first watched the series about slavery, he was outraged, and he thinks that black history should be channeled the right way.
Inspired by the courage and determination to see odds in a stereotypical way of things, he has tattooed Muhammad Ali.
His second tattoo is of Malcolm X, who mentored Muhammad Ali and self-educated himself in prison, turning his lawmen and fought for peace, third Martin Luther King, one of the most prominent black activists who used word of mouth and speeches on live TV to fight against racism, the fourth tattoo of Nelson Mandela, fifth Marcus Garvey who inspired Mandela, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King.
He tried getting black people to their native country, building ships. Andre has also tattooed ship along with Garvey.
The sixth tattoo is of Bob Marley, the musical icon who had a self-explanatory influence on his music.
His other tattoos include Rosa Parks, Black Panther Party, Huey P. Newton, Tommie Smith and John Carlos, Peter Norman, Colin Kaepernick.
A romantic wedding proposal
Andre had been dating his girlfriend-turned fiancé, pop band little mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock since 2016.
On their fourth anniversary in lockdown 2020, Andre finally mustered the courage to propose to her setting up a romantic wedding proposal with candles, fairy-led string lights, and outdoor cinema.
It was a beautiful evening where the couple was celebrating their fourth anniversary.
They were watching a movie outdoor when suddenly, pictures of the couple reminiscing their memories together with her song playing in the background.
He was already on his one knee with the ring when the screen changed to “Will You Marry Me.” She was all in tears seeing her man getting on his one knee. It did not take her much time to say yes.
Expecting their first child
The couple is expecting their first child together, and Leigh-Anne shared the happy news via her Instagram account.
Soon-to-be mom, Leigh-Anne, is found flaunting her baby bump in her social account. She recently wished her fiancé, soon to become a dad, a happy father’s day alongside her father John sharing their pictures.
