Life And Education

Aliou Cisse is the Senegalese-born professional football manager and a former player. He is currently the manager of the Senegal National Team.

His background and career as a player and a manager

Cisse was born in Ziguinchor, Senegal. He was nine when he moved to Paris and dreamt of playing with Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Cisse, when he was out, he was French, but when he was at home, he was truly Senegalese.

As a child, he used to go to the Parc des Princes to see the great players like Safet Susic, Valdo, etc.

He trained in Lille at the age of 14 and trained before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 1998.

He captained Senegal national team at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and reached the quarterfinals.

As a head coach, Cisse took over Senegal national team in 2015 and led the team to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup though the team was knocked out in the group stage of the tournament.

Besides that, he also led the team to its first-ever final in 2002 at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

In an interview with the New York Times, Cisse said, to be the coach of the national team is to be a politician and feel the country’s pressure on a daily basis.

It’s about knowing the economy, the culture, the history of your country, he added.

On the 22nd of Febraury 2022, Cisse led the Senegal team to the African Cup of Nation victory, the same victory he missed as a player during a penalty during the shootout 20 years ago.

He is the first Senegal Captain to reach the African Cup of Nations final and the first Senegal manager to win the tournament in 2022.

Speaking about his career as a player and a coach, Cisse said he has also tried to set an example.

Cisse gave a savage reply to Jurgen Klopp’s comment on AFCON

Cisse was not happy with Jurgen Klopp’s comment on AFCON. Klopp’s labeled the competition as a little tournament in November 2021.

Cisse responded to his comments with a savage reply where he said what he (Klopp) thinks of himself?

He manages Senegal, and his players play for Klopp at Liverpool. He added respecting Liverpool but not Klopp, who undermines African Football events.

He also said Klopp today is in this position because of African footballers and that he was losing every final until players like Salah, Mane, and Matip came to rescue him to win his first-ever major European Final.

Klopp later apologized publicly for his comment.

Cisse went through emotional traumas

In 2002, Cisse lost he lost 11 members of his family in the MV Le Joola,which is assumed to be the second worst non-military disaster in maritime history.

It killed 1,863 passengers from at least 11 countries besides Senegal.

Cisse participated in the charity match between Senegal and Nigeria to honor lost lives. They raised money for the families of the victims.

His girlfriends and past relationships?

Cisse is a very private person, but he is a married man today. It is unknown whether he dated anyone before or about his past relationships.

Married to a Burundian

Though Cisse has kept his personal life out of the spotlight, he has a wife and beautiful children, a son and a daughter.

It is not known when did their wedding take place.

During a rare interview about his family, he said he is married to a Burundian and has children who are just beautiful and that he no longer has an extraordinary story with women.
