Sawyer Took His Own Life

The death of the child actor was shocking news to the world.

On April 23, 2015, he committed suicide at his aunt’s house in Austin, Texas.

According to police reports, he shot himself to death with a handgun.

The news of his death was confirmed as his sister Madylin released a statement that said,

“This morning, a tragedy has occurred. We are devastated to report that our beloved brother, son, friend Sawyer Sweeten, took his own life. He was weeks away from his 20th birthday. At this sensitive time, our family requests privacy and we beg of you to reach out to the ones you love.”

Was Sawyer Depressed? What Made Him Take His Own Life?

After the tragic death of Sawyer, everyone was left with the question, “Why did he decide to take his own life”?

The answer they might never get. At the time of his death, he had been vacationing with his twin brother Sullivan at their aunt’s house in Austin, Texas

Daily Mail reported via Sawyer’s family member that Sawyer was fighting depression and had a long battled mental health issues.

One of his cousins, Jacklyn Stines, also revealed that there had been a history of depression running in the family and that Sawyer had suffered from learning difficulties and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

This condition affects people’s behavior, due to which Sawyer faced a lot of problems in school and had to be on medication, but she was unsure if all of that had something to do with him in his decision to take his life.

Before he shot himself, he left a suicide note, which said that he was insecure about coming out as gay.

Along with Sawyer’s death, she was also concerned about his twin brother Sullivan with whom he was incredibly close.

According to her, Madylin was very close and protective of her brothers. Still, Sawyer and Sullivan were closest than anybody else and did everything together and had recently bought a house together in California

They have never been apart and hoped they keep an eye on Sullivan, not knowing how he is going to take his brother’s death.

His Mother’s Say on His Suicide

According to his mother, he never confirmed of having any problem. However, before he took his own life, he had a conversation with his father and said that he was evil and did not deserve to live.

Madylin, on her brother’s death

Madylin was very close with her brothers and protective of them. While opening up about her brother’s suicide, she said her brother was a strong and selfless friend.

Madylin starred alongside her twin brothers in “Everybody Loves Raymond.”

She added her brother was more than just a friend, and when confiding in one another, he always had the kindest words of encouragement and that her brother will forever remain in her head and those shared moments with him forever.

Sawyer’s younger sister Maysa also said that though her memories with her brother hurt now, some of the best memories she had with him deserve to live in her mind as well as the mind of her family forever.

His Funeral

His funeral was attended by about 200 people, including friends and family. Everyone gathered at a funeral home in Riverside, California

His casket was loaded into a hearse trailer attached to a motorcycle by six people including his twin brother Sullivan Sweeten and stepfather Jerry Gini.

On his funeral, everyone made sure they wore his favorite colors. Most of the people attending the funeral wore a blue and green colored dress.
