Chestnut in an interview with Essence, shared how he knew that Byse was the one.

He said Byse had no clue about the surprise because she had made plans to celebrate her birthday the next day so that she could spend quality time with him on her birthday.
She wanted to have a quiet dinner with him as a part of her birthday celebration, but he hosted the party for her and gifted her a car, which was a complete surprise for her.

Back in January 2016, 27-year-old Dante Lamont Chestnut took to his Facebook account and claimed Morris Chestnut to be his father and alleged him to be a deadbeat father.
He also claimed that Morris left him and the family after he rose to fame from Boyz in the Hood.
Chestnut, while appearing on The Breakfast Club, spoke about the allegations and clarified what really happened.
According to him, he had a consensual friendship with someone when he was 17, but it wasn't a relationship, and they never went on dates.
The girl, after a while, said she was pregnant with his child, so he stepped up to take the responsibility, but it was later revealed from the paternity test that he was not the father.
Dante, at the time, was three years old.
Chestnut said he didn’t find fault in Dante for whatever he said or was saying and blamed his mother for making up stories and brainwashing him.
He had also asked her to tell him who his father was so that they could build a relationship.
When Dante was nine years old, he was confronted with the truth. Chestnut himself said that he was not the father.
Clarifying the statement that Dante made saying that he left after he rose to fame from Boys In The Hood, Chestnut said he tried setting things up and doing the right things after she put the baby on him, but things didn’t work.
They tried to make it work but were on and off. They were together for the wrong reasons. It was after the movie came out that he was hit with a paternity test.
